I think there's more chance of Under The Cherry Moon 2 - Christopher's Adventures In Heaven going into production than P & WB getting something together for PR next year.

w/b's will surely cash in on pr ie; dvd movie and some sort of re-master cd.

if prince does try to do something he'll get slaughtered ie; accused of cashing in.if he doesnt he'll still get slaughtered for doing nothing, HE CANT WIN THIS 1 !

No way.

I think both WB and Prince know the importance of PR - it will NOT slip by completely.

On a side note, tonight I saw an ad for a Virgin Megastore sale, and one of the releases they advertised was Sign O' The Times.

I can't remember EVER seeing Prince in an ad of this kind - A small reference I know, but if SOTT is deemed worthy of promoting to the masses on sale, I think it's a sign that people still remember Prince - he isn't quite at Sly Stone level just yet.

I don't think anything will happen if it requires WB and Prince agreeing on anything.
And when did Prince last release anything that he knew his fans wanted?

Mebbe at the 25th Anniversary, like with The Rocky Horror Picture Show? biggrin

He can make some nice cash of this.

That's enough reason to suggest something will come of it, no matter how lackluster.

Anxiety

WB had an opportunity to do something really cool with the 1999 album and single when the year 1999 rolled around, but Warners and Prince both squandered the potential away with a half-assed special, crappy looking collectors' singles and an abysmal re-recording e.p.

WB has (understandably) turned its back on Prince, and as a result, Prince has all but turned his back on his WB catalog. Everything that's not being currently promoted by Prince is pretty much left in the cold to waste away in the elements. I'm afraid Prince will be long gone before anyone shows any proper love to any re-releases of his back catalog. Literally, nobody cares about this classic material except for the fans.

Prince bitches and moans at his concerts nowdays about Purple Rain, and he has a track record of pissing people off. Those to points combined are enough to convince me NOT to get my hopes up about a PR whoo ha next year.

prince will have nothing to do with it, i predict. maybe warner bros. will do something but it will most likely not involve prince. i don't care one way or the other. i have all the unreleased material. if a special edition dvd were released it would be great but that's about it.

If WB wanted to milk an anniversary release of P.R. they wouldn't have been patient and waited for 20 years.

They would have released a 15 Year anniversary thing in 1999, and promoted it in conjunction with all the publicity he got in 1999 with the song 1999.

I doubt that we will get ANYTHING new out of this, with the unlikely exception of possibly seeing a slightly re-packaged, or maybe re-mastered CD or SACD release that Best Buy can put in their "Essential CDs" section of one of their sale flyers.

If there's a pretty penny to made off of this, prince and WB will cash in on it. nod

He won't get slaughtered by THIS fan...lol...there's nothing wrong with an artist re-visitng and celebrating a career highlight.I would be very disappointed if he and Warners don't do anything special next year for the 20th Anniversary of 'Purple Rain'.

Just a few years ago, Prince had a Times Square billboard for Rave . . the blue vinyl jumpsuit image. And for Emancipation, there was a commercial that played on prime-time networks . . .

I'm just saying that the promotion aspect is often there, even if the sales don't reflect it . . .

If you consider how Prince completely blew his opportunity to use the entire year of 1999 to his advantage, No one should be surprised if he lets this go by without a peep.

I agree that this could be a great year to generate sales of a repackaged DVD and companion DVDs (videos, UTCM, SOTT et al.), but call me Thomas -- I will believe it when I put my money on the counter with the product in hand.

Nothing will happen.
The film was of its time and will not be very appealing for anyone 20 years later. Ditto the music.

Prince the commercial entity is dead and so in makes no sense to revamp or reissue.
