ahh, the swings scene was so cute. I have all the evidence on video, together with the SOTT showing, AND the video montage that channel 4 did!

this video is basically the paris cafe aftershow concert with a visit from mel. b tacked on at the beginning + one new song: beautiful strange w/trippy video/lyrics.
the mel b. this is funny, i love the way prince talks to her, he's very teasing, so is she. the whole thing is kind of funny and queer in a prince kind of way. if you try to watch it with some non-prince person, they won't see the humor i think. mel and prince play word association games, which here is really just an opportunity for him to make mysteriously veiled comments suggesting his "new" beliefs (no cross, no xmas, etc.). he also talks up the new CD (new power soul). paris cafe show is great! it looks like a bootleg perf., in a good way, if you know what i mean. kind of rough, but the sound is great. prince doesn't really take center stage a whole lot, but maintains the role of a strong band-leader and support musician for chaka, larry and doug e. similar role he played in the sacrifice of victor. this video definitely is not a prince ego-fest. i love the song he performs with just chaka singing and his playing guitar - sounds like they are writing it on the spot. oh, and then there's the come on video at the end, with prince dressed as a tramp and gets a hold of some watchtower literature. the whole thing is very low budget, very hastily put-together, thus very 1998 , NPS
