Seeing this Purple Rain contract makes me wonder... is it Prince ROGER or ROGERS Nelson... does anyone really even know?

and before anyone starts asking... yes I do have a normal social life...

I always thought it was a double-barrell surname, but apparently not

Prince's dad, John L. Nelson named his son after his band, which was named The Prince Rogers Trio .

That's where the "Rogers" (plural) comes from.

Prince Rogers, named after his father's stage name, 'Prince Rogers', hence the name for the trio.

I saw a picture of his birth certificate in a book once and it read "ROGER"; no S on the end.

Rogers sounds better tho

I always thought that he was named after the three bandmembers: Mr. Prince, Mr. Rogers and Mr. Nelson.

According to the photograph of Prince's birth certificate in Jon Bream's book on Prince, it is "Roger".
