Written by Kate Bush. Officially released on her album 'The Red Shoes'. The song was sent to Prince who then radically reworked the track. Upon receiving the material back, Kate Bush spent a considerable amount of time on the song, trying to capture what she had intended for it..
The song's history is covered in more detail in issue #45 of Uptown magazine, an excerpt of which can be seen here: http://www.uptown.se/2002...bush.shtml Michael Koppelman, Prince's engineer at the time also discusses the songs evolution here: http://gaffa.org/moments/2_2j.html ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Thx lovespill. I haven't heard the song but I guess it's about a woman having doubts about a man. But deep down she loves him...--------

I remember hearing this story about how the only thing Kate used in the end was Prince's guitar part, and she got her mate the comedian Lenny Henry in to mimic the way Prince sang since he did an impression of him occasionally.
I don't know if it's true. Kate does backing vocals on 'my computer' from Emancipation but you can barely hear her - what a waste. Perhaps Prince was getting his own back!!

Prince is credited with Keyboards, Guitar, Bass & Vocals. And he's co-credited for the arrangement.
Fine tune. | |
