I understand.......But I am past HITS.

I understand PRINCE touring, he knows WARNERS will start working some 20 years of PURPLE RAIN stuff, so I am sure he will try to get as much of that PURPLE PIE as he can, and rigthly so. But I feel I am so past HITS now, when I saw the ONA alone tour in NYC from my 3rd row center spot and FRont at the after party, it was a JOY to hear Power Fantastic and AnnaStesia and Joy in Repetition and when he played Raspberry beret and Take me with U it seemed like an unwelcome intrusion. Im not complaining because I will see PRINCE anywhere anytime, no matter what music or style or hairdo he's got, dont matter. I just dont want him to feel the need to step back and pick up those left behind.

PEACE

also in agreement here. i think we (or i) can all say this while acknowledging that his 'hits' are genius.
after n.e.w.s.?
its hard to know just who this tour would be for.
it seems it could only be for one of those people that says, "oh prince, yeah, i know him, little red corvette, and kiss right? what's he been up to? gawd, ever since he changed his name..."

i could understand wanting to reintroduce these songs again to the peoples (and cash in), because even considered as 'hits', they're still incredibly underrated. in fact they should all climb the charts again to number one, and they really should never have left that spot, except to make way for new prince jams.

to some degree, shouldn't we take some blame for a 'hits' tour? i mean it's not really like the fams and fans have really done much in the way to inspire him back, or have displayed much in the way of a willingness or engagement in 'doing the work'.

or if i am wrong about this please let me know.

Anxiety

Well, how do other artists reconcile an audience's hunger for "the hits" with their own desire to put their latest music on the stage and have it be appreciated? I think it's a tricky balancing act to appease the hardcore fanbase who is tired of hearing the same top 40 hits played over and over, and the casual concertgoers who just wanna hear the radio classics - I think there's a formula for appeasing everyone, but then again, we're not talking about someone who's oh so interested in appeasement...unless it can bring in some much needed $$$.

Prince will probably continue to do what he has always done...play concerts with a few new songs, some older obscure songs/B-sides, and some hits. He has enough "hits" to spread them out among tours, so they won't be that repetitive. I do not need to hear When Doves Cry or Kiss live again, but I always enjoy Purple Rain and Raspberry Beret.

I wouldn't condemn the track list on the upcoming tour until you at least see it. He is probably just saying it is all Hits to get people to buy tickets and get them in the seats. Then he will most likely do what he usually does and play a mix of songs.

when fans on here are mentioning that they enjoy his 80s output more than his current endeavors, that doesnt mean theyre strictly limited to Lets Go Crazy and Kiss.

I was enjoying every moment of his obscure older stuff on the ONA tour as well.

But I still dont think most of his current releases even compare to that stuff

I second that alhtough oldies are welcomed but I perfectly understand the fact that now he wishes to pley new stuff... Which he more or less always tried to do.
