I don't know anything about any 'Beautiful Experience' movie. Can some kind orger please fill me in on this and the "Ulysses Production"? Please?

OK, here's what i know: in 1993 prince produced glam slam ulysses, what has been called musical interactive theater - a stage show featuring 13 new songs and based on homer's odyssey. new songs included pope, dolphin, dark, come, space, poem, strays of the world, interactive, endorphinmachine, strays of the world,etc. prince himself didn't appear, but it featured the dancing of carmen electra, and played at glam slam L.A. for a couple of weeks in august 1993. however, the production disappeared quickly.
prince salvaged all of the new songs from glam slam ulysses and parsed them out over his next few release: hits, come, gold.
fast forward to early 1994: a video was produced at paisley park called "the beautiful experience." it was based on a performance feb 12. 1994 celebrating the release of TMBGITW single, featuring nona gaye, and interspersed with other video clips of songs from come, gold, etc. and featuring parts of the glam slam ulysses production (interactive video clip, come).
the beautiful experience has also been referred to as audio-vision. it played on cable television in europe, canada and other places in the summer of '94 (but not the US).
neither of these productions has been released officially, although most all of the "new" songs have been relesed in various forms and formats since.

The Beautiful Experience is GREAT. One of my favourite Prince-moments on film. The full concert was also broadcast by several european radio stations at the time. The concert took place on february 12th, 1994. The full setlist was as follows:

In the movie, you can see all the performances except "I Believe In You", "What "I Say", "Peak The Technique" and "None Of Your Business". Nona Gaye stars in some segues between the performances and you can see videoclips for "Race", "TMBGITW" and "Loose!". Listen to a bootleg of the full concert, it´s awesome! Quality is perfect, since it´s an official radio broadcast.

nonetheless it is a great collection of Prince footage.

Blimey, that's the thing about Prince. I just keep on discovering more & more things! Many thanks 4 your answers folks. Intrigued to hear Prince did a version of The Oddysey!

The Beautiful Experience was quite good. Much better than Graffiti Bridge and Three Chains O' Gold, if you ask me. The videos for Acknowledge Me and Pheromone feauring that there REALLY hot dancer (who was also in the video for Mayte's version of If U 2nite) - what was his name again? The one with the short, platinum blonde hair - are the highlight of the TV movie for me, but the Race video is also pretty cool.
And the storyline with Nona Gaye - while very simple - actually works just fine.

that version of 'come' is amazing, my favorite version of the track. in fact, i was really disappointed when i heard the LP version as i was expecting this mix.

This is the version that I have and was recorded on Channel 4 UK Television a few years ago. If U R still interested in a VCD let me know so I can encode from the VHS, but the aformentioned is what U'll get is what you will get!!!

In abridged, VCD I guess was the predecessor to DVD, but some would say VHS on a CD. The sound quality is standard 16-bit 44hz stereo sound and uses MPEG-1 technology.

It can be played on DVD players too.

I am not trying 2 insult any1's intelligence, just trying to define for those who asked!

I know that NPGMC sold Beautiful Strange on VHS through the club but didn't they also sell The Beautiful Experience for a brief period. I vaguely remember trying to order it but it was sold out.

Actually last year NPGMC did offer a video copy of the Beautiful Experience ...however as I was disappointed to find, they simply DUBBED THE JAPANESE LASERDISC! they stcuk a white laser printed label on it and a white cardboard video sleeve and charged $20 US

an official boot, in shitty quality.

They also offered Sacrifice of Victor, but after alot of complaints quickly withdrew them both, saying "we never said it was original, blah blah blah"

Anyways thanks for the info on Glam Slam Ulysses. From the clips that appear in TBE, it's too creepy and cheesy for my liking.
