I'm currently working my way through 4 Led Zepp cds and can honestly say that there isn't a single rock track that Prince has done that can compare to these original pioneers. Anyone agree. By the way the track 'What is and what should be' should be covered by Prince!.

Prince has never been a convincing rock act. He's a pop artist, that's what he does best. Seems he's forgotten that though.

If you've ever seen LZ live, you'd that know they are indeed very funky, but if you are looking for funk in the guitar (Page tends to play lead more than rhythm), then you don't know much about funk. Funk starts in the rhythm section. Bonham and Jones were a pretty tight funk tandem.

I know a whole of hardcore funkateers latched onto Led Zep with "D'yer Maker", "Trampled Underfoot" and "Kashmir". I know cuz I spun my LPs for them!!

really, neither are comparable to the other. different styles, sounds, emotions. prince has always been a blended sound whereas led zeppelin were a 'rock' band. they had soul, sure, but in a completely different way then prince exemplifies.

Matt how can you compare P. Rain to Stairway, PR is his anthem but Stairway is just about the most anthemic rock song there is . Its twists and turns in so many directons and as for THAT voice. The thing with Prince is that live he does rock hard but on record he lets funk get in the way and adds too many quirky touches. As with all things he doesn't stick and focus on one style for too long which is great for us but doesn't get him the recognition he deserves.
