For You is an excellent album! And I'm also tired of fans trashing it. It's classic - containing some of Prince's best ever songs. And for those of you who disagree, I'm not on crack - I love For You! I'd like to hear Just As Long And We're Together and I'm Yours on his next tour.

only that?Well, I DID blush. The other tracks just kinda... bore me. They are all so smooth and, like Prince's recent output, seems more like a result of work than actual passion.

But, you know, even Prince himself stated back in one of his rare eighties-interviews that he was trying to create the perfect album with the result that it got overproduced. Likewise. Even though Prince contains "hit singles", For You, in terms of songwriting, atmosphere and texture is the better album.

I have a thing for I'm Yours. I just really dig that song. I would love for him to dust it off and give it new life in concert, the way he did with She's Always in My Hair and so many other songs.
The rest of the album is pretty good too, especially now that you can look back at it and see elements in it that he reused in The Glamorous Life and Eye Hate U. | |
