consecutive years of top ten hits...is prince the record holder?

any of u musicial masterminds out there know if prince holds the record of consecutive years of top ten hits in both the us and the uk? i have been looking at various books and i cant see anyone else apart from maybe madonna, she has had almost all top ten hits since 1984 til 2000 but she had a blank year in 1988 in the uk.prince had an unbroken run of top tens every year from 1983 til 1994 in the us and from 1984 til 1995 in the uk...
...
...he almost made it 13 years in a row in the uk but betcha by golly wow peaked at number 11 in 1996.

It would seem from your own post that Madonna is the record holder. But then there's Elvis and Elton John who may have had a better run. Not sure.

No, I don't think it's Prince
I know Lionel Richie wrote a number one song in America every year for about 12 years
Also, Paul Mcartney would have had a hit every year in America from about 1964 to the late-eighties

If I recall correctly,Prince has had at least one Top 10 hit every year from 1983-1992.I'm not sure if any other artist has broken that record.

It was definately '83-'94 in the US. 7 hit no.7 in '93 and The Most Beautiful Girl hit no.3 in '94. He just missed the top ten in '95 when I Hate U got to number 12.

Top Ten?

How many years has Madonna had at least 1 Number ONE hit in the past years on all the charts? At least 13. She has between 35-50 top ten singles worldwide.

I always thought that "7" reached the Top 10 in late 1992,making 1993 the first year that he didn't place a song in the Top 10?

7 was released late '92 but didn't enter the top ten until the following year.

I'm sure if Prince held the record for ANYTHING it would be common knowledge around here already and us anal-retentive fan/ms would bask in it glory. So I'd have to say that, no, does not hold that record.

That's at least 4 different groups though - Beatles, Wings, Himself, duet with Stevie + MJ - not as a single front man solo or with backing group

well..he wrote a top ten hit every year. Besides, Prince played with the revolution, the NPG, Sheena Easton etc.
All of the above songs were completely written and almost completely performed by Paul

btw, here's an amazing record: Paul Mcartney had number ones in UK under the following guises:

solo - Pipes of Peace (1984)
duo - Ebony and Ivory (1982)
trio - Mull of Kintyre (1977)
quartet - Help! (1965)
Quintet - Get Back (1969)
Charity Agg. - Ferry Cross the Mersey (1989)

it was common knowledge in 1995 that Prince was trying to break the record with Eye Hate U. A record he shared at the time with Ringo Starr, not Paul McCartney. And Eye Hate U would have gone top 10 had WB not screwed up. In many places, it went on sale a day or two early. Thus sales that should have all counted in a single week ended up being split between two weeks.

As far as I know, Prince still holds the record. I'm not sure from what's been posted here why Paul McCartney wouldn't hold the record. At the time, It thought it was said he didn't have a top 10 hit his first post beatles year. Is the list being posted here for him the year of release, or the year charting in the top 10?

I also think that Prince screwed up the promotion by not delivering the video. This song took off like a rocket on radio, and a video would have surely pushed it into the Top 10 on the pop charts.

Are you sure about this??
I really don't think it's true
Ringo stopped having hits in 1975
Paul definitely had number one hits in 1970 & 1971
Also, Elton John and Stevie Wonder probably had longer reigns aswell,

How come the song "Jet" isn't on that list? Wasn't that a Top 10 hit as well? It's my favorite Paul McCartney and Wings track.

I believe that he only listed one top ten hit from each year. Which is why some of Prince's top ten hits are missing also.

There was a LOT of discussion about this around the time Eye Hate U was released. I beleive the record should be in the guinness book of world records if anyone has a copy.
