Ain't Present Prince BETTER ?

Just watched Purple rain on DVD. Didn' watch the movie for years. Know what? My sweet love said: this is horrible! An d I was very surprised to find myself very uncomfortable…
Purple Rain was made in 1984 and god, it's pretty OLD! The heavy make Up, the clothes, the very basic script… NOT a bad movie, IMO, but I imagine the artistic level that made Purple rain #2 after the blockbuster GhostBuster (such a crap movie). That's the 80's… If you compil best Symbol & Prince tunes, I personaly find MORE post-glorius days great material than in the past! Following albums were musical revolution, OKAY, but just like the Beattles albums, it's OLD stuff, sometimes WEAK: 1999, PR, D&P, Parade, ATWIAD… Listent 2 ALL ONA's productions and TRC… it's WORLDWIDE MUSIC!

He released very bad ongs TOO between 1980-88. I think Prince BEST past songs were bootleged songs (Lisa, Purple Music…) very upfront music. The quality of the latest years is far better. And the music is more accessible to any kind of person without being commercial.

Present day Prince is different from early Prince, not better. That is an important distinction to make.

If you are saying that the above listed songs are bad, then please note that it is your opinion that they are. That you think something is bad does not automatically make it bad.

I think Prince BEST past songs were bootleged songs (Lisa, Purple Music…) very upfront music.

Yes, well, that's a matter of taste. You are entitled to your opinion.

The quality of the latest years is far better.

Really? And you're some kind of expert on music or something?

And the music is more accessible to any kind of person without being commercial.

Well, it didn't access me. Please defer from generalizing. You really can only speak for yourself. Everyone's a critic and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Being old doesn't make it weak. What are you, some kinda expert? If that is your opinion then state so. You are entitled to have an opinion but not to state it as being fact when all it is is your opinion.

Listent 2 ALL ONA's productions and TRC… it's WORLDWIDE MUSIC!

Again, that is your opinion, not fact.

shocked I LOVE each song u just listed.

BTW, I think TRC, ONAL, & NEWS is as good as anything he did in the 80s. For musicianship alone, the recent stuff towers over everything. I also think the ONAL tour was THE best tour he's done PERIOD (let the flames begin). I think he's finally found musicians who are his equal and challenge him the way Wendy & Lisa did.

However, there is no way the stuff he produced from 1991-1999 even compares to anything he did from 1980 to 1987 (think of ALL the stuff he did during this period...his own stuff, side projects, outtakes, performances). Its just a matter of quality, originality, and overall peformance. I like a lot of stuff from the 90s, but its just no comparison to his 80s output.

i'm with u , theP: prince today is aeons better than the kid of purple rain or the prince of much of the 80s. he's definitely more of a musician now that he doesn't have to be concerned about pop stardom, MTV, and all that nonsense, and it shows in the quality of the music.

Yes, that's SCARY!
Soem of you said that he produced MORE music in the past… FALSE!
Prince probably wrote MORE songs during his lovesymbol era than in the 80's. I have many 90's bootlegs, and you have about 4 years of NPGMC music!
Of course I adore the 70's/80's Prince, but it's just like"turn the radio on, they're playing the old song" [Mavis Stapples]. It's super souvenirs. When I listent to ONA Piano and TRC and ONA LIVE, i'm Proud. The critcs and the public altogether have REAL musical efforts and full creativy. And I am proud that such a great master has such a fantastic background! Sure he deserves a Hall Of Fame.
