The first I had was a collection of outtakes on a single disc called "Yellow".

It had tracks like "I Wonder", "Player", "Martika's Kitchen", "Power From Above", "Carmen On Top", "get Blue", "Open Book", "The Voice", Uh Huh!", etc.

The packaging looked so good, I thought it was an official release. When I got home and listened to the bad quality of some of these tracks, I thought "something's not right..."

Never play it anymore though, because now I have The Work!

Oh god! I have a bunch of these: Blue, Red, Yellow...and they're all horrible. $20 a piece way back in the day too. What a shame.
My first boot is a vinyl album entitled "He's got the look". It has a terribly scary portrait of Prince on the cover. It looks as if he has two faces and the Eifel Tower is in the background. The show is an aftershow in Paris from the SOTT tour. It is not the small club show (which I'm finally getting!!) , but he plays many of the same tracks: (Just my Imagination, Mutiny...). He also plays a great little jam that is listed on the album as "Wasn't my Faith", but since he says "Was it my FACE, Was it my...", during the song that can't be the title. Great bootleg and kept me a fan through the tough times (the Tony M years).

A set called "Prince in Rock 1978-1993." It had a bunch of studio outtakes, rehearsals and live performances.

A tape called "Covering Them".

Got stuff like Red House, Sex Machine, and my two faves, Jailhouse Rock, and I'll Take You There, recorded live in Europe.

My first AND ONLY bootleg I own I got in Maui from a Prince fan who was closing a very small store, and was clearing out some of his stuff. It has the Black Album, and about six other miscellaneous 1986-era cuts. This is where I first heard Wonderful Ass (albeit in awful awful quality)!

The guy had another Prince 3-disc set of all 12" versions from 1978 to about 1992 if I remember correctly (covering about the same span as The Hits/B-Sides) which he WASN'T selling and I had to coax him to let me hold it and check out the track list, lol

Chcolate Box and Charade were my first two (on Vinyl), they both sounded awful but it was still exciting to hear these mysterious tracks.I didn't bother for awhile after that as SOTT and Lovesexy kept me occupied til i bought 'Small Club' on CD (X Records). That opened my eyes to what bootlegs could be about.

Can't pick a favourite, I like the 'City lights' set alot though.

My first boot, was the first boot release I believe.

The 1985 pressing of "From 199 till now" mixes. Still my favourite because its soo rare now.

That was followed by the cassette leak of Charade, before the vinyl version came out.

The Black and chocolate box I think.

What? You people have bootlegs? Haven't you sent them in to Prince so he can have them all destroyed like he asked you to? hehehehe

For me, it was the Black Album on vinyl in 89 while visiting my brother in D.C..

My first bootleg:

Video-8/3/83 First Avenue show & 12/1982 Houston, TX show from the 1999 tour...I picked that up at a store here in the Metro Detroit area called "the Record Collector".

Cassette- Select songs from the Jewel Box pt 1... While attending high school in Tennessee, the criminal justice teacher made me a copy.

Cd- The Homecoming...boot of the Minneapolis homecoming show on the 1999 tour, with the Time and Vanity 6 on the first cd and Prince on the second.
