Related Tracks

Hi,
Give example of two Prince songs that are 'Relatives' of one another. Not necessarily a example of prince Copying himself (i.e the melody of 'Manic Monday' lifted from '1999') but instead songs related due to their theme or production values or perhaps even their arrangement.

example.

I have always regarded 'Something in the water (does not compute)' to be the blueprint for 'Computer Blue'. The pleading lyrically content and the production values (especially the drums) these tracks share appear hold much in common. Yet, both tracks are far from being simple 'carbon copies' of one another and instead stand as great individual pieces of work with a shared bloodline.
You do as I say

An obvious one would b 'Free' and 'Purple Rain'. To me purple rain sounds like a more mature and sophisticated progression from 'free'. i think the book DMSR says something along a similar line to this. Again though, different songs in their own right!

"money don't matter tonite" and "she spoke to me" both have a Steely Dan vibe to me.

Gold, Free and Purple Rain all have the same vibe too in my opinion.

I always found it interesting that "Violet the Organ Grinder" and "7" are so similarly structured. They both start out with P singing in harmony with no music, then the bass kicks in...
