OK , name me ONE Prince rock track that could sit alongside Led Zepps tracks. I'm currently working my way through 4 Led Zepp cds and can honestly say that there isn't a single rock track that Prince has done that can compare to these original pioneers. Anyone agree. By the way the track 'What is and what should be' should be covered by Prince!.

Prince has never been a convincing rock act. He's a pop artist, that's what he does best. Seems he's forgotten that though.

Which albums?
Led Zepp II is my fav. | |

Well, 'SOTT' has the same riff as 'Whole lotta love' so maybe that.
Otherise, 'Let's go crazy' is comparable. ********************************************

Only if you name me ONE Led Zeppelin funk-pop track that could sit alongside Prince tracks first. And NO, 'the Crunge' doesn't count. The Cringe, more like.

obviously as ever it is down to personal taste and very objective - but couldn't disagree more with you two for starters listen to the guitar work on the following, they are more not only superior songs, they are more varied and interesting/humourous, both lyrically and musically: I like it there Shhh Joy in repetition The Cross Purple Rain (a modern and more interesting Stairway to heaven) She's always in my hair Lets go crazy The Ride Chaos & Disorder the riff at the end of Peach live circa 94/95 and live Prince's recent version of Whole Lotta love - is superior to Zepplin's own version other than that, in terms of funky guitar riffs - give me one LZ guitar riff that is funky?

Trampled Under Foot, Out On The Tiles from III, Black Dog live I have always thought is funky as hell.

So Prince can play some rock guitar, but he doesn't rock.

And Presence is a rather funky album. In a rock/funk kind of way.

other than that, in terms of funky guitar riffs - give me one LZ guitar riff that is funky? Although I appreciate the effort of Prince, he is not even playing the same game as Led Zep doing Whole Lotta Love... Funky guitar riffs??? Jimmy Page created more guitar riffs on 4 Led Zep albums than Prince in his whole career. Funky? No, just a whole lotta guitar riffs...

No it's not superior. You just happen to like it more. I happen to like Living Colour's version more, but I know it's not superior. If you've ever seen LZ live, you'd that know they are indeed very funky, but if you are looking for funk in the guitar (Page tends to play lead more than rhythm), then you don't know much about funk. Funk starts in the rhythm section. Bonham and Jones were a pretty tight funk tandem. I know a whole of hardcore funkateers latched onto Led Zep with "D'yer Maker", "Trampled Underfoot" and "Kashmir". I know cuz I spun my LPs for them!! "Damn. That shit is fon-kay!!" test

ahhh...brings back memories of grade school...
really, neither are comparable to the other. different styles, sounds, emotions. prince has always been a blended sound whereas led zeppelin were a 'rock' band. they had soul, sure, but in a completely different way then prince exemplifies. there is a 't' in but edit [This message was edited Fri Sep 19 8:56:13 PDT 2003 by imnotsayinthisjust2bnasty]

Matt how can you compare P. Rain to Stairway, PR is his anthem but Stairway is just about the most anthemic rock song there is . Its twists and turns in so many directons and as for THAT voice. The thing with Prince is that live he does rock hard but on record he lets funk get in the way and adds too many quirky touches. As with all things he doesn't stick and focus on one style for too long which is great for us but doesn't get him the recognition he deserves.

No Attitude yeah. Same can be said for Prince (through most of the 80's and 90's atleast). Oh, and nobody rocks like Led Zepp. [This message was edited Fri Sep 19 9:08:02 PDT 2003 by whodknee]

What a bunch of crap. How is that a bunch of crap? Point out one song on a Prince album where he really lets rip apart from the occasional fiddly guitar solo. He is not a rock artist. o edit. [This message was edited Fri Sep 19 9:32:07 PDT 2003 by Cloudbuster]

Okay, there's Endorphinemachine that I can think of. No others at present. There's some raw guitar on C&D but it's more funk/blues than out and out rock.

Hey Hey children-let's end all of this Zepplin VS. Prince guitar crap right now. I've seen many interviews with Robert Plant praising Prince VERY highly so drop it. "New Power slide...."
