I finally listened to Emancipation all at once

Granted I was cleaning as a surprise while my baby clocked much dollars (dont ask)which made it easier..
Holy River is still the best song on there. He used live drumming on Daned If I Do of all songs ..and Courtin Time is not too bad especially when he does his swing jive singing...Disc One is not that bad at all. Betcha By Gooly wow brings back memories of him and Maytes video expecting their child and now it seems poignant, not the abomination everyone makes it out to be..Disc two is the real deal of course thats not so overpowering. By the time disc three comes on, the Slave song is sems disjointed and like a jolt and doesnt seem to fit right after the jello of disc 2...Face Down seems like the closer to a side one of disc three thats fitting...Disc three is really beat bombastic beat u over th e head that when My Computer comes on you feel it belongs on disc 2...and its a welcome quiet after Da Da anetc..Sleep Around is pleasanmtly bombastic and should be played live. One of Us and The Love are nice closers wityh feling but he ends it with the Jam Of The Year like song Emancipation to get his point across..I for one think that song should have been more acoustic and different. Not something like Jam Of Th e Year part 2...maybe he ewas celebrating in tone and mood...it just seems odd coming off of those last 3 quiet reflective type songs.

I've listened to Emancipation all the way through a few times
and I totally agree that the discs are kinda in the wrong order.
Disc 2 should have been the final disc really, and all that upbeat
and experimental stuff on disc 3 should've been on disc 1.

I don't really resent Emancipation like many of his fans do!

I like the fact that he was in a hyper mood when he delievered that effort(somehow angry but def happier).

Its kinda hard 4 me 2 listen to Disc.2(Which I think its the best thang about Emanc) esp the 1st song(since its featuring his unborn baby's heartbeats) I don't know how to explain it, its a shame such a beautiful work like that is about a past rather than a future(if you know what I'm saying).

And I agree about the order altho I wish he'd include some of that era's non-released gems like "I'm The DJ" & "Slave 2 The System" instead of "Salve" simply becoz he was very str8-up and basic when he crossed his point more in "S2TS" IMO, I don't complain about the released gems tho.

I think the theme behind is the reason why the hell we dig this song so much. Nevermind, the production(which I still think its cool even tho its a bit over-the top) that you guys dislike!

I love it also and I feel like there was a sort of eerie sincerity to it. But my jam is Sex in the Summer.

Disc one is in my car CD player bumping through my system. I think disc 1 & 2 are great, but I have a hard time not skipping songs on disc 3. I still think its a great album. I'm not in love right now, so "Somebody's, somebody" just hits the spot.

The all times I've tried to listen to Emancipation all at once I fell asleep halfway the first disc.

evillol

Maybe if he produced the album in the organic TRC style I would have appreciated the album better, but the way it is now I really can't stand it!

I think the problem with emancipation was that he was so determined to release a 3 dis set, and had too much time to think about it that the finished product is a little too polished, and quite frankly the material is spread too thinly.

top songs:

The Holy River (haters of this are missing out)
The Love We Make
In This Bed I Scream
My Computer
Face Down
Somebody's Somebody
Jam Of The Year
Soul Sanctuary

I dont really like the covers much. One Of Us is quite cool, but id rather have had Love...Thy Will Be Done, from which he used the beat, instead.

I find it a disappointing album because there isnt a single disc i can put on and listen to straight through. It would've made a good double album, and how he could leave off tracks like 1000 hugs & kisses, goodbye and she gave her angels is beyond me.

What if Emancipation had included some more of the Gold era
tracks that were left over instead of the cover versions. It
might have injected some variation. Songs like Days Of Wild,
Acknowledge Me or Interactive.

But your double album choices would be different to mine. I can take or leave in this bed and somebody's somebody. Everybody can make 1 or 2 discs from it that they really like, I really don't understand why there is any need to like all 3 discs. I can't stand sleep around, dadada, or emale for example and I love we gets up, which others seem to hate.

To each their own and for me, that is the true beauty of Emancipation.
RIP sad
