I am totally fuckin disgusted with Rollingstone Mags top 100 guitarist list... Sorry if this topic is a repeat here but RS mag is way off.!!! Even my homie mrbungle who doesn't care about P's music said he is apalled at the fact that P is not even on the list. Another thing is going into book stores I find plent of books on other music artists old or new but when it comes to Prince WTF... In my opiion he is the all time best artist musically and sometimes I can't even find one book on him. Jon Bream did one in like 85...Inside the Purple Reign, Per Nelsons books and Now Possessed... but these are books I have only seen here and there throughout the years never all at once... -------------------------------------------------

I'm disgusted with Rolling Stone Magazine too for not including Prince on the top 100 list. I was happy that Jimi Hendrix got the #1 ranking, but it would have made the magazine article even better if Prince would have gotten his props too.
Oh well, guess I'll rip the magazine up and use it to line the bird cage. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Consider the source. It's Rolling Stone. They're putting the runner-ups from American Idol on their fuckin' cover, for crissakes... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Right? American Idle and Olsen Twins on the cover..RS has really lost the plot.

you're not the only one.
Rollingstone has probably lost what was left of their credibility. I know TONS of people pissed off by that list, prince fans and non prince fans. I even heard a cashier at my grocery store bitching and complaining about it. I knew these "100 greatest" lists would finally start to piss off even the masses ~KiKi

yeah guys...i'm totally pissed off that prince did not at least come in the top 3...in terms of modern technology and advancement of the electric guitar prince is obviously number 1...with what jimmy had to work with and what he did i give him his props for being 1st...but come on...not even on the list!!!...rolling stone really and truly lost all creditability with me on this one...they will never ever get any money from me...i dont even wanna read that mag 4 free in the store even...u suck rolling stone!

Maybe those with the vision and know-how should start an underdog, underground publication covering the music industry "subculture", artists outside the status-quo, mainstream, rebels with and without causes, and even Prince.
Are there any such publications?

What's this? about the 100th thread about the 100 greatest guitarists?
1. RS's list SUCKED. 2. On a REAL list, Prince STILL wouldn't make the top 100. (and YES, I've heard "Small Club") 3. This is a TIRED ass subject. Steve Vai and Stanley Jordan weren't on there either and they are both WAY more deserving of a spot than Prince. Bitching ain't gonna change the list. Just enjoy Prince's solos and GET OVER IT! fucking babies.

Eh? There are more...but don't ask me to name them at the moment. Seriously, there are more though. 7x3 said: yeah guys...i'm totally pissed off that prince did not at least come in the top 3...in terms of modern technology and advancement of the electric guitar prince is obviously number 1
The problem here is that you guys look for validation from bloody RS magazine in the first place, apparently believing it's the same magazine it once was. Just as the writers and editors at RS probably feel Prince's best days are behind him, RS is not a musically relevant magazine anymore and hasn't been for a long while. Jann Wenner sold out. No big deal. MOJO kicks RS's ass. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Prince has to ok some of the books doesn't he? I mean it would be kind of risky to put out a book without his ok. This recent book kind of gets aroud the problem of Prince by using a lot of hear say from actual people. The best Prince "book" is probably Prince's music. It tells his story best if u really listen. To put in all into perspective I once saw a book on Tiny Tim.

straight the fuck up, Prince shreds!!! better than anyone on any list... he's got a coupla decades on Jimi and can play anything Jimi played and then some... if anyone is a better player it might be Santana...just by looking at their lame list I noticed they included chuck and b.b. in the top 10 so as to have at least a few black guitarist in up there.don't get me wrong chuck and b.b. are excellent players but nuttin P can't play.. P can handle any style and has proven it !!! This all of course is my own opinion and I have plenty of discussions with plenty of opinionated peeps...this shit can go on and on but we all frequent here on a site called www.prince.org and that says what??? -------------------------------------------------

LOL! Anybody with The Mack as an avatar is cool with me, Prejman. We can agree to disagree. Prince DOES rock, though. Don't get me wrong. Maybe not top 100 in the world rock, but he rocks nonetheless.

I feel Jesse Johnson was the Baddest Cat to come out of the Minneapolis Scene IMHO.Ernie Isley,Sugarfoot,Roger Troutman,Stanley Jordan,George Benson,Johnny Guitar Watson should be mentioned.I Don't see Prince making the Cut even with a more legit Poll than Rolling Stone.Prince for Me it's always been the Sound more than as a Instrument Player Per se. mistermaxxx

I'm not a guitar player. B B King in the top 10? Hmmm? I thought I read once or saw on TV that in an interview B B King himself stated that he was not good with playing chords. He did not, does not play chords, for the most part. He plays note by note blues melodies. So I can see how such a Rolling Stone list is flawed.
I would think a great guitar player should be able to do chording, melodic soloing, rhythm, etc. Do it all, in other words.

Pejman, because Prince doesn't co-operate with journalists the way other artists do.

Perhaps if you picked up a couple of B.B.'s records, you'd learn a thing or two. B.B. is an excellent player. LISTEN to MUSIC, not INTERVIEWS. What makes a guitar player great is what he/she CONTRIBUTES TO GUITAR PLAYING as well as ability. B.B. has contributed. 2Freaky, is that the Pyramid in Memphis in that pic? The question is rhetorical. Interesting looking guitar. [This message was edited Sun Sep 14 10:59:55 PDT 2003 by BlaqueKnight]

Let's see here...Duane Almond number two!! Frank Zappa 44, Curt Cobain, number 16, Eddie Van Halen, number 70. No Steve Vai!! No Alan Holdsworth!! No Robert Fripp No Sonny Sharrock. No Chris Duarte!!
Prince can play great, but his technique and originality is lacking. He hasn't really invented any new sound on guitar. He is better known for his keyboard sound. But I will say that he can outplay Clapton any day. Many on this list could be bested by our purple love God. So, Rolling Stone can kiss my for the cool people who actually care about real music. All you others say Hell Yea!!
