Hello, ORGers. I've been lurking on this board for a couple of months now, and I finally decided to participate. I've always been a Prince fan, but over time, lost track of most of his musical releases. Besides Diamonds and Pearls, Emancipation, and Rave...I don't know/remember much about his 90's work. I recently began rediscovering Prince, and I want to buy some of his more recent music. What 90's/00's Prince music would you suggest that I get?

the first 5 albums are a must.

Come! Buy a copy of Come as soon as you can. They're easy to find in secondhand shops. It's a good little album, with an absolutely stunning, kickass title track.

The Gold Experience

I would probably start with Symbol, The Gold Experience and The Rainbow Children. Once you've absorbed those, move onto the more obscure stuff like Come, Crystal Ball, The Truth, One Nite Alone, etc. But get NEWS now!

If you are a true Prince fan you should have them all and don't list to people like Cloudbuster because the releases from the 90's are not shit. The 0(+> is great and so is the Gold Experience. The Rainbow Children is a masterpiece. Crystal Ball is loads of fun and New Power Soul and Come have some good songs on them. I would say buy everything. You can get most from your local used cd store for about $10 or less. Go for all of it and enjoy

Cloudbuster - what about ONA live? What's your opinion on it? I can't get enough, it's in my cd player all the time.

Gold Experience is a must have. Great 90's stuff--But a warning--you must like rap music.

Come is great. Especially the amazing title track, with horns up the arse, and Letitgo, a pop/funk gem.

Get the Symbol album from 92. But you do have to be open minded about rap.

Sign O The Times is his best album, so get that or you will be made fun of by us.

Lovesexy, is a must. Avoid Rainbow Children. Godawful relgious garbage.

The Truth is another masterpiece. Acoustic guitar and Princes great song writing. Beats most 80's works.

Avoid the second album. Shitty drumming and weak ballads. Disco goop.

The first album For You is shweet, naive soul music with a noticable Stevie Wonder influence.

Course, Purple Rain, Parade, 1999, Dirty Mind, are must haves. Cannot be a true fan without the essentials.

Controversy is mostly weak. avoid, unless you dig new wave.

Dirty Mind is great, but if you easily offend, or do not like new wave rock funk. then avoid.

I'd say Graffiti Bridge is a must have, but these dinks have no taste. Trust me.

Avoid, all of his new music, especially NEWS. and his downloads. Lots of tripe, except for SuperCute and a few others.

ONA live is a lot of meaningless jamming, but if you like Prince live, then go for it.

Try to find most of his bootleg songs. You will find masterpieces that make many of his official albums seem weak. No Joke.

Now get to that used cd store and shopp.

I just got Chaos and disorder and I don't get why people bash that album, i love it.

No. Controversy kicks ass. I was never much of a new wave fan, but the title track, Let's Work and Sexuality kick so much ass, it doesn't matter what genre of music you dig.

Don't listen to this fool on the above points. Some of his others were spot-on, but he obviously has a little brain damage. Maybe from picking his nose too hard.

Well lovesexy to me is overrated.

1999 is his best album with Sign O' the time coming in 2nd.

For the most recent stuff, the best is the Rainbow children, peopel ten to forget that it is a concept album. Although I don't get the concept there is supposed to be a story there.

2nd up would be come. A GREAT ALBUM PERIOD.

The truth to me is pure crap except for a few songs. ANimal Kingdom is almost as bad as The holy River.

Then comes Emancipation- A solid album. Would have been better as a 2 disc.
