"I Like It There" why??

The fact that Prince chose to release this video on npgmc
kind of puzzles me. Even in year one, all the vids were
either new ones or old released ones. But no outtake vids.

And now, without further ado, there's "I Like It There" in
the cyberclips room.

Particularly since it's a vid from the 'slave' period and
since it features those semi-naked statues. Of all things
this is not the most likely pick for a vid to release.

So why? Because he's been going through his vids again cuz
this dvd thing made him think about all the money he could
make releasing a video collection?

By all means, I do understand the logic of this years npgmc
and that this is a year of "reflecting" hence why we don't
get any new full fledged 'by the book' Prince tunes and do
get instrumental fusion albums, live recaptures etc and the
old songs in the reflection room.

Everything about this year screams of Prince taking stock
and looking at his own body of work for a chance instead of
just going onward and upward toward the next project.

And that's a good thing, I think. I can't explain why, but
the release of this "I Like It There" vid seems the most
healthy thing he's done all year. It shows that he's really
looking at his previous work and taking some random picks
from it.

The only downside to it is that I can't find any logic in
any of it. For Prince himself, no doubt there is a certain
route in all this, but I can't see it at this point.

But I do think that we shouldn't expect a new studio album
of conventional Prince tunes this year. It seems that this
year is purely reflection and experimentation.

So I'm just gonna hold my breath for next year, cuz you just
know that once Prince decided to shift gear again he's gonna
come up with something so wicked it will baffle you.

Especially now that he's taking stock and somehow seems more
intent than ever to add some commemorable stuff to his own
catalogue.

Regardless of why he posted the vid there, it's pretty cool to think back to those days, when there was a real mystery as to what he would release or do next. It wasn't all great, of course. The art direction of this video had a smaller budget than Alphabet st! but that suit is off tha hook.

OK, tell me when he sings "Hope you're digging me too" at 1:00 he's NOT giving the finger. I know he's playing guitar but I doubt he could resist slipping that in. Besides it's a video, not like he really had to play the right notes.

Okay this was my lamest and most boring post ever, but ive been up all night. Sorry
sad

WOW!! Really cool to go back and see some of the older stuff he's kept away. This album has grown on me in the past couple of years and it's great to see it performed.

A live show of this cd would blow people away. Hmmm.

Who knows, maybe Prince is thinking of pulling out some old stuff again and go on tour.
