SOUL TRAIN 94 per4mance

Just saw this clip.
Man i hate lip synchs! I know most tv shows insist u perform to a track cuz it's cheaper and easier but he's played live on many other shows

secondly, did the tape fuck up during "NOW"? during the chorus, just before "40 45" verse, where he says "how u wanna ___?" It cuts out when he's supposed to say "play" and you just hear silence and the dancers feet shuffling!

really weird moment, mayte just sorta standing there and prince walks back over to the mic and he's late coming onto the verse...Im surprised they aired that shit.

Oh and during Acknowledge me, I'm sorry but that choreography looks like something the retarded kids put together in high school at the talent show. Prince is sorta standing there pacing back and forth on this huge empty stage, not even pretneding to sing since he has no mic, kinda melodramatically using his hands and pouting as Mayte dances with some other dudes. err At leaset he busies himself bu sitting with Tommy and jumping off the piano twice and the song fades out like the Time's did in Grafitti Bridge :lolol:

Just when I thought it couldn't get any lamer, they bring the great dramatic actress Nona Gaye to do...something while Prince wastes some funky ass licks on the One Eyed Bass that ain't even plugged in sad

So Prince married Mayte even after she choreographed this shite? Least she had a great ass!

"This ain't live, this is memorex, y'all!"

SOUL TRAIN has NEVER let any of its performers perform live. I believe the producers of the show, want the performance to sound "exactly" like the radio or recorded version.

You'll be surprised to learn that Mayte didn't choreograph much whilst she was with Prince. If the dancing is the same as in the acknowledge me on the beautiful experience (I haven't see soul train) then it was done by some dude called Jamie King I think.

I love that performance- it was what sold me on the Gold Experience material and had me salivating for a year waiting for its release.

Actually, I seem to remember a few singers that were allowed to have a live mike--like Luther Vandross--but they always sang with a track. Never any bands, though.

The worst TV performance Ive seen Him do was of TGRES 4 an (unknown) American TV show.
(I downloaded it and all I can tell u is that they have those crap, big gold cardboard symbols hanging over the stage, and He's wearing sunglasses...any further info on what show this may have been?)

Anyhow, he lip-synched his way thru it, and u can just blatantly tell his heart just isnt in it.

In fact, he just plain looks like he doesnt even want 2 be there. confuse

Ive never seen him look like that before, so it really surprised me...that's why I remember it

During the 70s,artists routinely performed live on that show.I have a bunch of old video tapes that would just amaze you.On a 1975 episode,Minnie Riperton sang her hit "Lovin You" live, and it will give you goosebumps. On a 1973 episode,The O'Jays sang their hit "Love Train",but they changed the words to "Soul Train"...lol...

In the 80s and beyond,it became rare to see an artist singing live on Soul Train.Probably because during that decade we were entering the "video era",where choreography, dancing and looking good were a major part of an artists' performance.

But,for the most part,I liked Prince's 1994 appearance. My only gripe was,why did he take so damn long to appear on this show?? smile
