ANGENPG

I am 18 years old and have always thought of Prince as a Legend! I had the Diamonds and Pearls CD for a couple of years so although I wouldn't have classified myself as a fan I recognised him as one of the true legends of popular music -screw your faces if you may but he did have many a hit in the pop chart!

Around the time of my High School finals (Oct 2002) my friends and I had the stupid -or so I thought at the time- impulse to buy 'The Hits/ The B Sides' after seeing it for AU $20 - US $13- in 'Sanity Music'. Although we didn't really get into it while doing our finals, come the last day we listened to it compulsively. All Summer we thrashed the Gad dam CD, in the Car, painting our rooms, at the beach... it was as like our new accessory! Summer 2002/2003 will forever be remembered as the Summer of Prince! While Prince's other albums facinate me, I can't realy say I've been able to throughly enjoy his other work as much as I have Purple Rain and Hits/B Sides. I can't go without a week with listening to 'Darling Nikkie'! I did have the compulsive buy of "Rave Un2 the joy fantastic' after hearing the Neptunes Remix of TGR and have to say it is pretty good!...

I can't wait to see Prince Next month... My friends and I are traveling from Adelaide to Melbourne to see him and are basically draining all the money we've saved this year to enjoy a 5 star trip (hoping) to purchase Diamond tickets, booking a room at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne City and spending mre money than we have!

All I've been saying this past week is 'I can't believe I'm going to see a legend in concert!'... I think that sums up my Prince under 21 life!

Also, my brother's wife is pregnant and I've been holding Sennheiser headphones against her belly every time I visit since her 3rd month!

I'm 22...23 this month. So old!

I've noticed that most Prince fans aren't very young but not very old either. Probably most are in or around their 30s. I doubt there is anyone in their sixites in this club but if so, that's very cool!

Probably with NPS. disbelief Make sure to tell that poor child that not only was he not Prince then but that it was a New Power Generation album.

Actually I was beginning to wonder this myself, thanks for putting my mind at ease. I'm 20, and the only other P fan I know (besides on this board) is 33... and he thought it was totally bizarre that I am a fan. Apparently, it's a "30's" thing.

I saw the ad for "Emancipation" on TV when I was 12 or 13, and I have been a huge MJ fan since I was 10 so of course I knew the history of comparison, so I thought I'd take a gamble and spend my $50 on it. Wise investment if you ask me.

Nobody could beat 13 though... MrSquiggle - how did YOU get into P? Most 13-year-olds don't even know who he is these days! smile

OMG, that makes me feel old! I was 21 at the time the symbol album came out, and I remember defending Prince in the college newspaper back then from their stupid "alternative-bands-are-the-only-good-bands" music critic. Ah...the good old days... smile

Even worse! The first time I heard anything from D&P was hearing "Push" in a record store. I was thinking, "Oh no...don't tell me that's a rapper on a Prince song..." razz

My brothers fiancees' son is only 3 and he's gonna be a huge Prince fan. He already likes 'It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night', 'Dance On' and other stuff. He also regularly watches the 'Lovesexy live' vids and when he asks 4 them says 'Can we have the man with no clothes on?'
He hasn't grasped that the man with no clothes on is Prince!
They're gonna have 2 be careful with Princes lyrical content soon though I spose.'Miss?'
'What Callum?'
'I sincerely want 2 fuck the taste out of your mouth!'
Not good. lol

My daughter must the the next youngest then, because she's 7 and she's a mega-fan. She'd rather hear Prince in the car than anything else and she gets mad if I want to listen to somehting else. She always wants to watch Rave- first thing- when she gets home from school. Her fave song on there is 'She's Always In My Hair." She's also memorized scenes from Purple Rain. She's the only other person I know that will watch PR back to back every day (that I let her) and never get tired. She even went with me to a fan club meet-up and she fit right in. (What does that say about us? Nevermind.shrug)

That's so cute!!! My boys are 3 and nearly 2. They love the Rainbow Children album and have to hear the tracks in this order: 14,8,12 then 13 or else they throw a tantrum. I would just love to be able to bring my 3 year old to the concert in a couple of weeks, but it's a lot of money only to hear "I want to go home now!" half-way through!! (not to mention all the tiolet breaks).

This year is my 20th anniversary of being a Prince fan, I think at my high school there were about 2 other Prince fans, but when Purple Rain came out I got mad because lots of people liked him for a short time, only ever buying that one record.

I went and saw the D&P concert in Melbourne and it felt strange that everyone in the whole place LIKED Prince instead of hating him! Looking forwards to that feeling again real soon.

I feel for you younger fans. Well only the ones that prefer the earlier work, like I do. I feel for you because you weren't there to see Purple Rain on the big screen. You weren't there when MTV was all videos (No crappy-assed shows) where they would play Little Red Corvette and you sat glued to the screen. Before VCR's that was the ONLY time you got to see this stuff. We watched MTV (and "Night Tracks" on TBS, before we got MTV) day and night looking for Prince videos.

I think the "not having it (VHS/DVD) to see anytime" element made the videos much more special. We went to see Purple Rain quite a few times. I was a hardcore fan at that time. I think it soured for me when the Revolution was fired. The music just didn't have the same impact on me. To me, the Revolution was kind of like family. You had white people and black people working together in a way that made you not even think of the racial element. I had never seen that before. All I had seen was white groups and black groups.

Then the BET interview aired and I saw this completely different person talking about the "other persuasion" referring to him as "the artist" and it really kind of hurt me. Then they showed this video from New Power Soul, I think. Some cheap-ass camcorder video where he gets out of a car and flips off this white person for apparently no reason at all.

My feeling was "What the f*ck happened???" when I saw that stuff. My best friend argued me to death over it saying it wasn't racial, but it sure seemed that way to me. Was the "white man" evil, all of the sudden?

Who is Prince, nowadays? I really don't know.

I would really like to hear some responses to this. I think I'll even make a new post with it, since I went into left field...
