All of 'em wink

Seriously though, all the 12" mixes produced between Controversy and Batman are essential IMO.

I like 'The Future' and 'Electric Chair' remixes that William Orbit did. It might have been one of those releases that Prince wanted people to send in. Also. pretty much all the 12" throught the '80s are pretty essential.

Every 12" 'till 1987.
The first that isn't breathtaking is the remix of Housequake.
After that one the idea of an extended version is most of the time replaced by the remixed versions ...
f*ck the remixes.

In particular interesting:

Sexy Dancer
Let's Work
Little Red Corvette
Erotic City
Hello
Love or $
La la la , He he heee

"Sexy Dancer" (Long Version) - This is the ultimate shit!
"Let's Work" (Dance Remix)
"Little Red Corvette" (Dance Mix)
"Let's Go Crazy" (Extended Version)
"I Would Die 4 U" (Extended Version) - Nice one but unfortunately it's an edit of a great rehearsal version...
"Paisley Park" (Remix) - This is just amazing...
"Raspberry Beret" (Extended Remix or New Mix)
"Pop Life" (Extended Version)
"America" (21:46 Version) - This'll keep you bouncing for a while...
"Mountains" (Extended Version)
"Anotherloverholenyohead" (Extended Version)
"U Got The Look" (Long Look) - Just for the funky intro...
"Alphabet St." (This Is Not Music, This Is A Trip)
"I Wish U Heaven" (Part 1, 2 & 3)
"The Scandalous Sex Suite" - Cheesy and cringeworthy as hell but the third part (The Rapture) has got a great redone version of the guitar solo Prince did in Sheila E.'s "Dear Michaelangelo"...

Neversin.

Let's Go Crazy(ext.)/Erotic City
U Got The Look (Long Look) - Housequake (7 Minutes Mo' Quake)
I Would Die 4 U (long)/Another Lonely X-mas
America (21:46)/Girl
If I was your girlfriend/shockadelica (long)

Best album for 12" mixes was without a doubt the Parade album.

Kiss
Mountains
Anotherloverholenyohead
---these for me are the best three 12" around---
Others are:

Paisley Park
Raspberry Beret
Pop Life
She's Always In My Hair
Scarlet Pussy
Alphabet St
I Wish U Heaven
I Would Die 4 U
Erotic City
17 Days
Theives In The Temple

Most disappointing for me was Little Red Corvette - Bassline just didnt work for me on this one.

the 12" of "sexy dancer" is a crucial part of one's collection, because it's the full-length version...not to mention it's bumpin.

I like the sexy dancer 12", but the song in general has never really done much for me.

I dont think Prince could do decent 12"'s anymore as he doesnt release singles. I assume (im too young to know), that it was a really special feeling going out to buy a new prince 12". Its one of the things that im really jealous of older Prince fans.

To have grown up in the eighties getting an amazing new album each year, all the great tours, all the side projects like the family and Madhouse, and to top it off, these amazing 12"'s and B-sides. And what do we younger fans get???.....Xpectation and NEWS....FFS

Actually ignore me, I quite like these albums, and I must confess the year long period in which I discovered all princes albums, his bootlegs, his live stuff, the side projects, the 12"'s, was quite a mind blowing year, and makes up for all the lackluster instrumental shit we're getting now.

Well, in the eighties I could only afford a fraction of all that material and I never could get tickets to tours because they sold out so fast!

Well, the "Let's Work" is the "holy grail" for collectors' purposes, as it is extremely rare.

I'd go for all of the 12"s from Purple Rain to Lovesexy as essentials. Especially these:

Let's Go Crazy/Erotic City

Raspberry Beret/She's Always In My Hair

Kiss/heart or $

eye Wish U Heaven/Scarlet Pussy

America/Girl

Mountains/Alexa De Paris

If I Was Your Girlfriend/Shockadelica

Sign O' The Times/La, La, La, He, He, Hee

The Scandalous Sex Suite is also an essential.

All 12" mixes and extended versions are available on CD too, if a somebody knows where to look...
