This is unforgivable that an officially released product is not using up to date technology. I bet it's just Prince being cheap again!

Has anyone considered that the aladdin looks the way it does on purpose. This is Prince; I don't think he would not understand the picture quality. The look on the DVD is perfect for the music they are playing. On some of those pull back shots where the stage and the lights are all fuzz, right as Rhonda's bass goes all fuzz, I can imagine Neal Cassidy showing up in the back of the theatre hootin and hollerin.
just an incredible show

I thought black and white film costs more than color. At least when I go and take pictures at the picture studio they charge me more for black and white

i find it weird UTCM gets slammed for being anti commercial. to me, UTCM sounds like (havent seen it) what ATWIAD is to the purple rain album, purposely different sort of thing. he didnt do another purple rain and full credit to him. the fact he dies sounds amazing, simply cos its so anti commercial, its b&w and set in the 40s, sorry, but i think if another actor did it as an independent movie sort of thing, it would have gone down much much better. saying that, i havent seen the film, so what do i know? didnt the writer of that film do something else recently, not the signs was it? but a big film im sure? how is princes direction in UTCM anyways?

Sure.

And the Crystal Ball order fuck-up was done to make us more eager for it's eventual release.

I guess, definitely not your typical ending to a romantic comedy, but it's not so much the fact that his character dies, it's how he dies. P lost some major acting point there. and jerome's character with the fake-ass church lady type crying--disbelief It's horrible, you'll see what i mean if you ever see the movie.

its b&w and set in the 40s, sorry, but i think if another actor did it as an independent movie sort of thing, it would have gone down much much better.

maybe, but you said actor, which prince is very a from.
I mean the movie's funny and has beautiful cinematography(sp?) but the acting is mediocore at best.
BTW:The story actually is set in '85.
how is princes direction in UTCM anyways?

umm...stiff..as hell.

Please tell me you're not that stupid man. Do you EVEN know what he's was going for when making that film??? OMG!!! The actual film WAS filmed in color, but was later transferred to Black & White. I recommend reading D.M.S.R. if you want to know why he wanted it in Black & White. Do try edu-ma-cating yourself next time you stick your foot in your mouth again.

With UTCM, he was trying to make a statement...WHICH HE EXPLAINED, he was going for an artsy, 40's style French film. What possible point could be made by releasing a DVD in bad quality? The Aladdin DVD was neither artsy or based on something previously done as was done in UTCM, which AGAIN was explained by Prince. He said what he was trying to go for. The Aladdin DVD just show's Prince's laziness and just bad production on his part. I mean, its independent and he had to pay for everything, not a major label, so he had to cut costs. Still, its no excuse, but its a reason which he can't and won't explain with an ego like his.

well, I have been missunderstood, accused of trying to start an other war, and mostly dissmissed out of hand. But I'll keep trying.
The DVD is"artsy" and going for a look. at some points there are even lines going thru the screen as though this is scratched up old film footage. Isn't it even possible that he was trying this as a deliberate look, whether you happen to like it or not?

Oh. My. God. Do none of you people understand sarcasm? The point about UTCM was obviously sarcastic... *groan*

Anyway, I still disagree with the point. UTCM was made with a certain style intentionally - it was a stylistic decision that was made. The Aladdin DVD just looks bad. I really doubt it was some clever decision to make it look rotten, I think it is more likely that the people who made it just weren't very good.

No big deal. I still enjoyed the DVD and music on it. If you didn't, oh well. Can we change the record please...?
