She always reminded me of Janis, from the first time I saw the "Like a Feather" video.

I saw her live doing "Miss Celie's Bluse" that was powerful!

yeah, you're a bit harsh about it,
but yes..."quit that screaming and let the boy play!"

also really annoying is watching rhonda sing that 'no curl' line in the opening track of 'pop life'.
something really annoying about hearing it and watching it.

Her performance, all of it, was one of the highlights of the DVD for me. The climactic, crescendo ending takes my breath away.

Rule #1

You don't sing/scream over a dude's guitar solo?

Dumb ass

That's a great song up to the end! YOU can tell they tried to fix it in Post.. they turned her vocal mic off and tried to jack up everything else.. so we can hear the Guitar Solo

I watched the DVD with my dad last night and he was saying the same thing, he really enjoyed Nikka. I still think it would have been better if she had shut up during the solo...

I really agree with you TheMax.
I don't know why people don't like it. The song is really decent, and it builds toward a powerful ending. Nikka's voice is incredible. I like Like A Feather and Everybody Got Their Something, but this live performance really made me wanna buy the album (which I will do as soon as I have some money).

i find that slightly annoying too
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Lust, I don't think you are being too harsh, although I might have phrased it somewhat differently. It's a good song and it's all going nicely, then just as Prince starts getting warmed up on the solo, Nikka goes mental.

I heard that she was meant to be on stage for the rest of the show, but Prince had security escort her from the premises after that performance.
RIP sad

I saw her supporting Beck at the Brixton Academy in 2001 and thought the same thing. Her set was brilliant. Then I bought the single and thought it was too produced and all. really good live now, though. Hadn't her from her since till this DVD came out...

I hear ya. I like a little tasteful scream, more like hittin' and holdin' a high note, here and there, an ad lib to spice things up, but I don't wanna hear hollerin' and screamin' all over the place. Rule #1 First sing the dang song. The melody. Deliver it. With finesse and taste, then add what needs to be added- no more. The problem tends to be overkill with screaming.
