strange tales from the rain should be released by princ/wb as the anniversary of purple rain tribute

strange tales from the rain , the japanese promo should see the light of day if any anniversary or tribute albums are to be released next year by w/b records.

what do you guys think ?

Thanks for the info, Danielboon. biggrin

I think a regular Purple Rain with the the full-length Let's Go Crazy (instead of the old album edit) and the addition of Father's Song, Possessed and God (Love Theme from Purple Rain) which were all featured in the movie, would be a bit more exciting, though.

P.S: Oh, and one of the longer versions of Computer Blue too, of course. After all, Purple Rain was originally limited (and songs edited) because of the time constraints of the vinyl format - and that no longer applies with CD, so...

It's just such a shame though that the sound quality of CDs is so poor. The sooner the industry moves to 20/24 bit the better. Now that would make a nice release - Strange Tales on 24 bit smile. The year after they could do they same for His Majesty's Pop Life. Does anybody know the track listing for that 2LP Promo?
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

I think a re-release of Strange Tales From The Rain would be
pointless. I'd rather see a remastered version of the album 'as
is' coupled with an extra disc of extended versions and b-sides,
and maybe a third disc of the associated artist's tracks from
the movie plus some outtakes and incidental music.

something like:

disc 1:
Let's Go Crazy
Take Me With U
The Beautiful Ones
Computer Blue
Darling Nikki
When Doves Cry
I Would Die 4 U
Baby I'm A Star
Purple Rain

disc 2:
Let's Go Crazy (extended version)
Erotic City (extended version)
The Beautiful Ones (extended version)
Computer Blue (full length version)
Darling Nikki (extended version)
God (vocal)
17 Days
Possessed (instrumental remix)
I Would Die 4 U (12" version)
Another Lonely Christmas (extended version)

disc 3:
Jungle Love (movie version) - The Time
Modernaire - Dez Dickerson and the Modernaires
Sex Shooter (extended version) - Apollonia 6
The Bird (movie edit) - The Time
Wednesday - Jill Jones
G-Spot - Prince and the Revolution
Electric Intercourse - Prince and the Revolution
Possessed - Prince and the Revolution
Father's Song (piano instrumental)
Bedtime Story (backwards-crying instrumental)
God (instrumental)
Purple Rain (piano instrumental)

.

Possessed - I always forget about that.

I'd love an official release of the 2nd version.

Is the vocal version widely circulating yet?

Yes, that could be cool too, except that maybe another three-disc release might be a bad idea? Elton John wasn't the only one complaining about that following Emancipation and Crystal Ball - and to the public at large, those are possibly the last Prince albums they are aware of. hmm

But either way, I think any kind of special release will remain a fanboys dream, because I doubt very much that Prince will give WB anything they haven't already got. So if we're REALLY lucky, maybe we'll get the ordinary album with some B-sides and 12" versions added, like the series of ABBA re-releases from a couple of years back that had all the B-sides added to their corresponding albums.

sigh

But if it's done properly - like with the Abba releases - that COULD be kinda cool too, though.

Erm, I think I'm paying attention. A 20th anniversary edition of Strange Tales... (1984 + 20 = 2004), followed by a 20th addiversary edition of His Majesty's Pop Life (1985 + 20 = 2005). I didn't see the track listing of His Majesty's... posted anywhere in this thread, if that's what you were getting at. rolleyes

I'm pretty sure this is the track list for HMPL.

Side 1: Pop Life (Fresh Dance Mix) , America (Album Version)
Side 2: Raspberry Beret (New Mix), Paisley Park (Remix)

Side 3: Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix), Little Red Corvette (Dance Mix), 1999 (Album Version)
Side 4: I Would Die 4 U (Extended Mix), Erotic City (Long Version), When Doves Cry (Album Version)
Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

I want a dvd w/commentary by Prince AND THE REVOLUTION as well as Morris, Jerome, Appolonia, and Albert Magnoli. And when I say commentary I mean Prince speaking like a normal human being and not in his usual cryptic, spider web, "what the fuck is he talking about" manner. Damn that would be cool to the point of orgasm.

Boris' choice is near-perfect.

My only quibble with his list is that it omits The Time's studio version of 'The Bird', one of the unreleased songs currently only available in really poor sound quality.

In my opinion, the studio version of 'The Bird' would be a much more interesting item than a "movie edit".
