Sick of the name "N.P.G"? Give Prince's band a new name! The New Power Generation (NPG) has been the name of Prince's band for more than 10 years.
Alot of fans on this website have xpressed that the title of the band is getting "stale" and is hard to reference a particular period in the music seeing the band members evolve (revolve), but the name has stayed the same. (Thus, you get a reference like NPG 93 - 96). So, if you had the chance to name Prince's current band, what would you call it: PRINCE AND THE... Prince
I think that kinda rounds it all up. have ppl do the occasional background stuff, but Prince going back to his old roots and doing everything himself. but if i HAD to name a new band, i guess i would like to call them The Phunkspectacular. Prince and The Phunkspectacular sounds pretty cool 2 me. But i am sticking with my origional...PRINCE. | |

NPG is cool.
It kinda means the same as the Revolution / The Rebels / The New Breed - yadda, yadda. It's all the same. Prince is very influenced by those around him, if he doesn't have good strong independent people around, he'll just churn out whatever he feels like with little quality control or input from others. In a pop music artists' career, you can never under-estimate band-members, managers and those close to the artist. Unfortunately, it seems like, historically, Prince has done just that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Why should Prince change the name of his band? Just because he changed it when the Revolution broke up, doesn't mean he has to change the name every time some fan says they're tired of it. Would you ask The Rolling Stones to change their name? How about Aerosmith? Think of some of your favorite bands and ask yourself whether you'd be happy if they changed their name. A lot of bands, old & new decide on a name and keep it... sometimes the name last longer than the bands own existence! Left Eye is dead but TLC isn't gonna change their name!
