How much is negativism towards Prince due to him being black

Ok so lets really get this shit jumpin off(planet rock-ya just dont stop)..about the color scheme ( no pun)...I do feel that because of his color he gets clowned and boo-hissed for his dealings and daliances etc. rather than if he were not black...you see Axl Rose (just an example), and damn near every other rock star (especially in the 80's) playing the field and playing games...who gives a shit that he dogged precious Susannah supposedly...like he the only one to ever be nfaithful etc if the stories are even true etcbut folks pin Prince to the cross..I mean stauros..I mean cross hell I dont know anymore lol..and I wonder why folks never use relationships as an issue as they do with Prince for being such a godawful person...hell Madonna is queen bitch to her staff etc too...u think she doesn't or has not in th e past, fucked people over?...but she's looked upon as a "struggling survivor who did what she had to do to get where she wanted to go " etc and all that otha boolshet nonsense...yeah I think race has something to do with it...not skin tone per se...there I said it cause somebody had too...dont be scurred lol...Im such a fucker lol

Many friends that I talk to about Prince, if something comes up regarding his race, they always say:

"He's Black?? You have got to be kidding me. He doesn't look black. Oh well, nevertheless I still can't stand him."

Rd, I have a feeling that if you went to the websites of any of these musicians you're talking about, you'd see similar talk. By that, I mean you'd see what we see here: here, you have the "fams" who swear Prince can do no wrong, and who will defend any and everything he ever did. At the other extreme, you've got the ones who don't even like P or his music and haven't in a long time, who would criticize him for any and everything possible. I think most of us are somewhere in the middle, lookin' at and talkin' about him and his life in terms we can relate to. Ya know how people talk to each other about soap operas? Like who did what, to whom, and they get into it like it was real? That's how some of the people here dissect and pick apart P and his life and loves. I really don't think race has much to do with it. I think it's much more about celebrity. When I go into the Other Music forum, I see lots of criticism of Madonna and other artists who are white.

But, hell, convince me--I'm open to the possibilities!

Nope..been there done that believe it or not..and if theres the slightest talk of those matters in the negative, its not with one tenth of the viciosuness that Prince gets from his own fan base.

Lets dig deeper:

Is it that his black fan base sees it more as "let him do his thing..he deserves..he can, he's a ccomplishjed" thing as a get by free pass as well as some of white people saying "fuck Prince! he's an ass and a brat and..."?

Seems like there may be two faxtions..however I have seen black folk add to the praise of Prince even during dubious things to add a "yes he has fucked in this endeavor but"...

so are black people more forgiving of Prince?

come on now..its 2003--say somethin..

well that's for a number of reasons.
Some prince fans feel mistreated, some prince fans are angry 'cause he's not commercial, and some just really like susannah lol

anyway, Prince's ummm..."track record" gives the pissed off fans yet another thing to complain about.
The artists you mentioned actually have commercial success and are still popular.

I mean, look at rick james, you never see much hating going on over there...and the things he did compared to what prince did makes P look like a choir boy.

Where he shold not have been let off just because of what he HASA done etc? Lets do both sides of this coin.

wel, yeah, there are racist (believe it or not) and homophobic fans who do pick on prince soley for that reason.
But the majority of fans who pick on him on a daily basis are for other reasons; name change, not a commercial hit in years, complications with the club, the shotty quality of the dvd, him becoming a JW, not singing about sex anymore, not cussing anymore, "cleaning up" songs, I could go on and on.
so yeah, race does fator into the criticism prince gets, but not as much as you're suggesting.
