Y was there no Parade or SOTT tour in the US? As far as I knew, he only toured America for Purple Rain. I would have loved to have seen his full SOTT tour or the Parade tour here!
I also wish Nude had toured here as well. Did he feel like he was not getting love here so he fled to Europe Hendrix-style, or what? Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I don't know what happened with a 'Parade' tour, but Prince really made a huge mistake by not bringing his 'SOTT' tour to the States. He had alot of momentum with that album, the singles were doing well, etc. In the fall of '87,I kept waiting for an announcement concerning the tourdates, but it never came.He gave us the concert film instead, but nothing beats the real thing.

Apparently Prince and his managers didn't want to over-expose him, so soon after the major tour that was Purple Rain, so they decided to do a few 'Hit & Run' shows (10 in all) between March and July 86.
As for S.O.T.T.US Tour, I hear there were plans, but Prince was frustrated by the weak response to the Sign Of The Times album.

Yeah,I heard about that. But Prince was wrong. There was no "weak" response to the 'SOTT' album! The album suffered ONLY when he released the offbeat "If I Was Your Girlfriend" as a single. The other three singles (title track,"U Got The Look" and "ICNTTPOYM") all reached the Top 10 Pop Charts.Even the non-singles ("Housequake","Hot Thing" and "Adore") received trememdous radio airplay. The critics were going nuts over this album too.

watch it guys... 'if i was your girlfriend' is far from offbeat, it was played on the radio in the u.k constantly at that time, it's simplicity is difficult to achieve and anyway it's my favorite on the album

I can't remember if there was a full-blown tour, but I attended the concert in Detroit at Cobo Arena back in da day (the concert on his birthday that's on the bootleg where he wears the yellow suit) and that was mostly "Parade" material. . .
Well, maybe not "mostly" but I seem to remember that all the "Parade" songs were fairly new to our ears, although it was getting pretty good airplay, at least in Detroit at the time. [This message was edited Mon Sep 8 18:06:55 PDT 2003 by NuPwr319]

Seems like the overly critical people are the sheep now days. It takes guts to admit that you like something. -Rdhull ...it ain't where ya from, it's where ya at... - Rakim

I always say this, but on the bootleg, they left off some of the best parts of the show, like Sheila E's part and the duet (kind of a battle of the bass and guitar) between Andre Cymone and Prince. It was amazing to see the two of them onstage together again. I was totally BUMMED when I finally got a copy of the show only to see that part got edited out.

Did Gold Experience get any kind of tour in the US? I know there were promo dates and stuff in Europe but did the US even get that much? All I seem to remember is that goofy David Letterman thing where he 'passed out' at the end of Dolphin.

Oh,I love the song too but you gotta admit,it's an odd choice for a single. It was the second single from the album and when it was released, the album began tumbling down the charts. When the more conventional "U Got The Look" was released as the third single, the album began rising back up the charts again. Like I said,I really love the song so I'm not attacking it in any way.In my area,it received airplay on our R&B stations, but pop stations were afraid of it...lol...it has since become a Prince classic.

I totally remeber that! Prince and the Revolution on the Purple Rain Tour was my first concert...and what a first concert it was!! I was 13 at the time and saw them at The Forum in L.A. in Feb. of '85. I was blown away! I couldn't wait to see them again.I then remember a press release around the time of the last stop on the Purple Rain Tour (Miami?) saying that Prince would never tour again. When asked why, his response was "Sometimes it snows in April." I remember thinking..."What the f***???"

Hello?
No one is mentioning the Lovesexy tour of '88! I also think that a SOTT tour would've been the s%$&, but the Lovesexy tour was off the hook, and my first Prince concert. Remember the show started with the Thunderbird going around in circles above the stage with all the smoke? Then it stops, and Prince jumps out onto the stage. I saw two shows on this tour. Peace. I also saw the lovesexy tour I attended all three nights at the rosemont horizon sept.18,19.and 20. and I recorded all of it as well as the Purple Rain concert, Let me say Prince did a wonderful thing by uninting us all for that one night, we were all on one accord.

I saw that show as well. Spectacular. But he still could have toured for SOTT and Parade. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
