yes, i do think that there are a lot of white fans that are secretly bitter that prince is now celebrating his "blackness"...

they feel like prince has turned on 'em or something... lol... i don't remember a lot of black folks complaining about the "lynch" name changing thing that prince did before "family name" on the ONA tour... but i remember a lot of pissed of white people...

same thing with the words to the "moors"...

how many white people got their draws in a bind over "abraham lincolm was a racist"...

so, i agree with rd... i think that subconciously, a lot of white people have a problem with prince's blackness...

and even though it's not on-topic, the debate about prince's race perfectly illustrates rd's original post... only the white people are debating prince's race... the white people are holding on to "prince is mixed" like they starving and it's the last of crumb of food on earth...

and i gotta say this right here...

you gotta be an blind-ass ignorant muthafucka not to see that prince is black... plain and simple... i don't care who the fuck you are or how much you know about prince, if you ever seen a picture of prince, you knew that muthafucka was black...

i'm with theClaps on this one... people act like black people only come in one shade... like you gotta take the black moses test... "if you lighter than Isaac Hayes, you ain't black"...

all people come in different shades... there's darker white people, and paler white people... same with hispanics... same with everybody... just cause prince ain't on the darker end of the spectrum don't make him any less black...

Brilliantly stated!

If ever I uncover evidence that shows that closing my eyes and keeping myself ignorant is the path to a world free of racism, I’ll lead the “colorblind” parade my damn self. We can dance and sing and you can watch me not notice a thing. wink

I’m picturing banners and sandwich boards, diversity floats, live bands, dancing bears, unicycles and clowns in colorless face. Magicians will be on hand to demonstrate how one can develop the skills needed to “honestly not notice.” wink

Here are a few of my initial ideas for the poster boards. All to be taken tongue-in-cheek and not aimed at anyone here.

“Let’s not bring up the past, my life is comfortable!”

“If you don’t address the subject, it fades away like a summer tan!”

“I didn’t even realize my collection was filled with only white artists until you pointed that out. You see, I don’t even notice color!”

“If they don’t make me feel uncomfortable, they aren’t really black, you know?”

“You and me are equal humans, just keep your nasty reality over there!”

“I’m not a racist and neither are any of my friends – where’s the problem?”

“Bigotry and inequality – I have a dream that we can wish it all away!”

“Racial injustice – shut up already, damn!”

“All my colored friends are colorblind just like me.”

“I didn’t know Prince was black until he started making it an issue!”

“Can’t you see? I need Prince to be just like me!”.

“I just want to be accepted!” -- Woody Allen’s chameleon-like character in the movie “Zelig” who turns himself into whatever race, political party, profession or girth is needed to fit in.

“No more human division now that racism is gone! -- Well, except for nationality, financial status, state, province, city, country, economic class, family background, age, profession, sexual preference, height, weight, level of education, looks, artistic likes and dislikes, eye color, nose shape, clothes, meat or veggies, language, hair type, disposition, cola choice, and political party.”

That’s a whole lot of parades. I’d better go get some more poster board. wink

Sounds like to me that some people just dont want to believe Prince is black. I mean, come on, Prince himself has said that he is black. So, whats the problem? neutral
People seem to be still uncomfortable with him saying this because he was able to cross all racial bounderies with his music and ways and therefore its safer to say he's mixed cause he can identify with any race. neutral

HRB should be erased completely from this site, that was the most blatant expression of racism Ive seen posted here yet. Who gives a damn if she's "young" and "a baby"...that shouldnt excuse what she's said. Because Im young also (19) and I have the sense not to say things so until she has the sense or decides to mature up fast, she's needs to be erased. disbelief

Well I think this thread has probably run its course now. It hasn't been on-topic for a while really, and the fact that people are now even debating whether or not Prince is black (!) just shows how silly it has all become. It's veering into some "Moors in Spain" domain here and I'm gonna cut it short now by locking the thread.

Prince is a black man. He grew up black, his family are black, he has negroid features, and he considers himself black and identifies himself as a black man. Enough said on that topic, I feel.

Making out that he isn't black is treading some rather disrespectful and possibly racist territory that I don't think we want to see aired on Prince.org.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread.
