N.E.W.S. bespreking

U zou hem hoedanook in huis moeten halen.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

loose translation...

Can you still make heads or tail from Prince? We sure can't.We've just given up on it. In recent years the litle guy tried about every weird way of getting his albums to his audience without those" baaad" record compagnies: through the internet, small distributors, post, you name it. He's almost at the point of singing them at your doorstep.Because of all the fuss you've missed some nice music, and also this time round you might be missing out on it with NEWS. By now though, you should be able to find them in the shops, the dotcoms or the man's own website.

Anyway, you should get it though. We defintly like NEWS, Regarless of the "bad" omens (4instrumentals in 4 big chunks, jazz as the nouveau chic). It's easy to think of tumbling, floating clouds and moodchanges with this music, as the sleeve suggests. The title gives the direction, North , East, West, South, together forming NEWS. And as changeable and ever diverse that clouds may be, the music is equaly complex; constantly evoking other moods and images.

It's a nice jazz record, regularly pumped up with some funk, mainly by bassplayer Ronda smith, and at times saxplayer E.Leeds. Dancing on it is not really feasable, unless you sensually shuffle around a bit once in a while, but it's perfect dreamaway music. You can't imagine how many massaging hands we've been touched by.
