Prince invited Joni for the premier listening session of
the "Around The World In A Day" album at the WB office, which she did indeed attend. A little while later, in 1986, he offered her the song "Emotional Pump", which she declined. I would love to hear that song. Imagine: Prince & Joni doing a semi-acoustic album..... She jumped on stage for Purple Rain at the show in Denver; July 3, 1986 -- my first Prince concert.
Related aside: When Joni announced her retirement from the music biz back in December, the Entertainment Weekly "HOT SHEET" reported that her statement was retroactive to 1982. I thought it was cute. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

How many times exactly did she anounce her retirement? I've been hearing talking about this 2 this very day!

yup, Prince wrote 'Emotional Pump' for Joni, but she turned it
down, saying that it was a great song, but she couldn't sing somebody else's song, and it would make a great hit for someone else. Prince recorded it at Sunset Sound on Oct 16th 1986, but never used the track for himself or anyone else. Susan Rogers has said that it was one of her favorite Prince songs, and thought it was a great shame that it never got released.
