Reviews of N.E.W.S. Have there been any reviews of N.E.W.S. in the American media? I haven't seen any - thought maybe I missed them. Anybody seen anything? | |

I think the appeal of running reviews of Prince albums and DVDs in the past has always been "HEY! NEW CONTROVERSIAL MYSTERIOUS CRAZY PRODUCT FROM THE PAISLEY LOVE GOD!!!" and people would get all excited and want to know what his crazy ass was up to next.
These days, Prince's name doesn't generate the spectacle it once did, so I think a lot of publications shy away from writing about his work anymore. It's kind of a shame - I hope one day Prince's new work is seen as just as valid and worth mainstream criticism as anyone else, and he can get write-ups without the fanfare editors used to think he needed to drum up in order to even be mentioned. Did that make any sense? | |

In the past it's mainly been the pop media that reviews the latest Prince recording. NEWS is nowhere near pop, and therefore that demographic isn't interested in anything that has no verses or choruses. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes. | |
