VEGAS DVD: THE SOLUTION The main criticism people have of this DVD is the filming, it seems it was filmed by different people on different cameras. Some of it is out of focus, the lights werent adjusted for filming often making faces seem over exposed and the cuts r sometimes too long or toom quick.
THE SOLUTION: Usually in concert situations (and in music programmes like TOTP) the cameras are centralised using a console where the vision mixer controls and chooses which shots to use when. This erases problems of synch as it is recorded "As is" rather than put together later from each camera's own tapes (as seems the case with the DVD). The colour balance is pre set using the console so that there arent contrast differences between cameras. Auto focus in concert situations is a big no no as the lights confuse it. The main solution though would also to have used more High definition cameras as those DV cams dont have a high enough resolution for DVD and it certainly shows. The biggest solution though would be for the lights to have been adjusted and set up in rehearsals for Camera purposes not just for the audience as it was mostly too dark in the background and when the lights came on they were too over exposed. This is because the lights were set for human eyes not for cameras which need much more light. The solution is to set them while looking through a monitor. Hope this isnt too rambling but I studied and worked in TV. lets hope they take note!

Or, in other words, PAY for people who know what they are doing. And don't be an ass cutting half of the show. Mayb the image quality of the other half wasn't up to par
Of course, when Prince sees the word PAY he runs off, screaming like a gril. "It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

Nice one Freaker - the thing about the lights being adjusted 4 filming live concerts is very true - U2's EleVatioN DVD documents this, where they talk and show the previous nights run-through with a different lighting set up (STILL the best live DVD Ive ever seen - awesome)
But by all accounts, (if I remember correctly), the LoveseXy gig from Dortmund that was screened across Europe then released on video almost never happened - as the Director held a meeting with Prince about the lighting situation, and a big argument ensued! If u watch the gig, there are a number of points where the lighting over-powers the camera (at one particularly bad point where Prince leaves the mic 2 go play basketball, the camera pans directly in2 a bright halogen light that causes burn-out on the camera lense 4 the rest of the show!) NOT good! So - wonder who won the arguement anyway? Bet He got His way - as usual! Then again - it WAS a fantastic light show - still havent seen better...

Hope this isnt too rambling but I studied and worked in TV. lets hope they take note! You don't necessarily need a high def camera to achieve that goal. However, you do need broadcast cameras that can handle that type of lighting situation. XL-1s are nice 3-CCD camcorders, but that's just it, they are still camcorders. They work great under perfect lighting conditions but in situations where the color temperature is changing drastically they fail like every other camcorder. He seems like Prince has trying to create a raw and edgy effect. He could've still did that using broadcast cameras. He could've put a main camera in the back, got a jib, a camera on the opposite side of the jib, a camera behind the stage, and used 2 XL-1s for close ups (where there was sufficient light). I think the biggest problem they ran into in post is that they had no safety shots, there was nothing they could go to. Everything was shot off the shoulder and that's the down side. But hey, you live and you learn. Prince was trying something new and it didn't work to well, but it was still one "kick a**" concert and that makes up for everything. -Tine

Yea good thing Prince is "free" so he can make his DVD shorter than what most major labels would make him put out. Why would he cut it short??? ______________________________________________

Actually - yeah, u are right, it was filmed really well - although I have 2 say as a long-time NIN fan, was majorly dissapoiinted by the lack of extras - although there are about three or four easter eggs tucked away on there that are really worth unearthing! (Like the online trailer 4 the album, video 4 'The Day The World Went Away' and 2 songs from the kiss and make-up show where Manson appeared during St*arfuckers and then launched in2 Beautiful People!) org note me SleazyG if ya want the info how 2 find 'em...
