I think Prince's music is very visual...he uses a lot of different tone colours and textures...he is a true "artist" when it comes to music...

...but has he ever tried his hand at the real VISUAL arts? Many great musicians do this at some point in their lives and indeed some make it a second career. For example, Miles Davis, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Michael Stipe, Captain Beefheart all have weilded either a paintbrush, pencil or camera at some point in their career just as well as they did their musical instrument or voice.

Does anyone know of Prince being a painter, photographer, illustrator or sculptor? Even better, does anyone have any pictures? I would love to know...thanks.

(I'm expecting the answer to be "NO", but I'm not sure, hence this post.)

Yes,Prince draws and he drew on the album cover of 1999 and Gett Off and yes he Designs his Own Fashions. Prince is a Muscian and an ARTIST both Musically and yes Visually. Also he's Directed his own Movies and Videos.

Sorry but the people doing the cd-sleeves are sometimes really really bad! The emacipation booklet is a disgrace and has no artistic line in it. The style of the picture in the middle was very nice and it would have been great if the rest was similar. Lovesexy by Mondino was very good, just as Parade, ATWIAD! ... Well - let's say he should have more eye for detail. Like the cover for the Rainbow Children is very very nice! but the booklet inside is an easy way out.

Same goes for the video's; some are nice;, I wish u heaven even excellent, but some are nor great nor really bad.

The films... Purple Rain was cool, UTCM was awfull and I avoided GB.

.. and muffy - If I'm not mistaken; there's a team of fashion designer that do the basic design, and he gives pointers in what direction to take.

How many times have you heard a Prince song and thought it was OK, but when you saw the video or saw it live, then you loved it? Happens all the time to me. Seeing the visuals really help you understand and get deeper into the music. I'm a musician and it helps me to stop thinking about chords/scales and I start to hear the "music". Example, I never really liked the album until I saw the 3 Chains O Gold video the other day. It gave me a whole new perspective on that album and I'm really digging it now.

Video killed the radio star.

And I think in terms of promo videos and visuals, Prince was hanging by the skin of his teeth.

His video successes have been sporadic and rare - he seems generally interested in the music only (according to interviews and past experience).

I can respect that, but there really isn't much of an argument for Prince as a visual artist.
