It finally dawned on me that I don't really like Prince anymore!!! Strange...NEWS has been available for a while, and I've made no attempt to buy it.
I didn't even consider buying the new DVD, EVEN BEFORE I KNEW HOW SHITTY THE QUALITY WAS! I've never cared about the NPGMC. I've stopped hoping that he'll play at the Park, so my wife can see him. It's been ages since I've listened to a Prince CD (I recently went on a road trip to the Black Hills, and didn't pack a single Prince CD out of like 50-some discs!). His old stuff doesn't move me like it used to. I rarely visit the .Org anymore. I have NO idea what's even going in the Prince world. He could be touring right now, and I couldn't tell you. I don't defend him any longer when people criticize him. And so on. I think I just don't like Prince anymore. Maybe it will last forever? After all, there was a time when I thought that Black Sabbath ruled the universe...but then I grew up. Maybe I've grown out of Prince? Was it the religious tilt? The boring instrumentals? The jenky NPGMC? The lack of Paisley gigs? What happened? And will I come back? What could make that happen? Remasters? A vault box set? Prince saying he was just kidding about "all that shit these last 8 years or so," and getting nasty again? I'm sure some psycho 'fams' will have some terrific "If you don't want to lick his purple man-fur, then just leave!" responses. But I'm interested in hearing from real, thinking humans. . . . . . . "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

maybe you just outgrew the stuff that you used to like about him (not speaking on American Bandstand, making a B&W film, or whatever). you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

Because I typed that long message when I could've just said, "Prince sucks the sweaty juice from a dead ape's anal column these days, doesn't he?" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . j/k I'm sad because I once got so much enjoyment from his music, and had a lot of passion for it. That "spark" (barf) is missing now, and I've only recently fully realized it. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Uh oh! Sounds like your relationship with Prince has come to an end. It's no big deal. You enjoyed him when you did & then you moved on.
My wife used to love Queensryche, then lost interest, then moved onto Mariah Carey, then lost interest. Tastes change as you go on in life. My love for Prince hasn't changed for the past 20 years: does that mean I haven't matured in 20 years?!? So whose music do you love now, KingSausage?

You know Hendrix and Lennon had the good fortune to die and end their careers early... Elvis and Prince just kept going until their former careers became less significant and all that is remembered is the cartoons that they became... ______________________________________________

People mature differently. What I grow out of, someone else may mature by growing into. And vice versa. Well, the last few years (actually like five years...no pun intended!) have been all about Bowie to me. And Dylan. Many other artists in there, but those two really have my ears. I've always been a big Stones guy, too. Maybe I'll "rediscover" Prince again someday. Maybe I won't, and will be done with him (I recently had to admit that I no longer gave a bloody fuck about 60s/70s Clapton either). "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I've always gone on "vacations" from the artists I love the most, and more often than not, I find my way back to them after a while, and take vacations from the other artists I like. I think it's a healthy and natural phenomenon. During the mid-nineties, I was pretty much on a complete Prince black-out, obsessed as I was by Bowie and Saint Etienne and Stereolab...once I got tired of all that (Bowie not included in the deal, I always love that geezer), I found my way back to Crystal Ball and Emancipation, and while both are majorly flawed offerings, they managed to hold my attention enough to catch up on what I'd been missing. There's no obligation to follow anyone through anything - either you like what you like, or you don't like what you don't like. Simple as that. Enjoy the breather or else take a deep sigh of relief that you've stuck a fork in it and it's done. It's all good.

The most ironic part is that the only discussion boards I participate in are these at PRINCE.ORG! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

as for me, i haven't suffered from any sort of prince burn-out. 90% of the time i'm feedin my old-skool habit--i always go to record stores and buy lotsa non-prince shit on vinyl and i'm constantly listenin to that part of my music collection and discoverin stuff...matter of fact, today i just found some albums on vinyl that'll be gettin major play in my apartment. i gotta be in a certain mood in order to listen to prince as it is.

Perhaps the nerdy audiophile that lives within me just can't take the shitty sound of Prince's back catalog anymore either??? "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Things will never be the same as that time when you were just 'there' with Prince, but hey, nothing can take away from the fact that Prince fucked you, like he did all of us, and it felt like a fucking trip! Take pride in the fact that you got turned on by one of the true individuals out there and that if you ever get your soul back with Prince, you'll actually find your love stronger than ever. Hope's a good thing if you're intelligent, and it sounds like you are. So, what are you waiting for? Pick up N.E.W.S., switch the lights off and cuddle up next to your wife. I bet you won't be cuddling for long... j/k

To answer your question(s), according to many of the people around here (and at the NPB*C), you're just a complainer and a playa hater.
I know waht u mean though. I stillhaven't sought out NEWS, although I did buy the DVD. Prince is still the greatest musician I can think of, but I'm with you on the fading enthusiasm.

It happens. You lose interest. I remember I used to be really into David Bowie, and I just got tired with the whole thing. The shitty albums, the obnoxious fan base etc. I realized he hadnt put out a good album since 1983. You will get over it, and maybe in a few years you can dig 'Dirty Mind' again. Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire
