What if Prince never made Purple Rain? How would it affect his stardom? Or him?

do you think he would be the superstar he is today.. personally if he had not made purple rain he would not be as popular and even a great pop culture icon... purple rain broke down more barriers than any other p album even more than sott.. honestly if p never had made purple rain he would be never be as rerspected and popular as he was 10 years ago

Prince has made music better then the "mtv" driven Purple Rain Album..

all that is .. a Album with all hits on it! 1999 was to prove to "whitey" ooops I mean MTV that he has it in him.. then they rleased Purple Rain.

ANYONE can Make "Purple Rain" Albums out of all his work. Emancipation could have been one! IF you made that a ONE DISK Project..

as for his other albums, if you put the great songs from 2 albums that are back to back.. and only put those out every other year.

They would all be "Purple Rain" Albums.

Without Purple Rain Prince simply wouldn't be the superstar he became. True, he's virtually nowhere in the public eye nowadays, but he still gets a lot of respect.

But then again, Purple Rain was like Prince's "Thriller". (or maybe Thriller was MJ's Purple Rain?) He'll never be able to escape the association with an almost 20-year old album, nor will he be able to top it commercially or in popularity.

If Prince had never made 'Purple Rain',he still would have achieved superstardom with whatever he released in 1984.The '1999' album took his career to another phase,and he was starting to attract pop fans.The critics were raving about him like crazy.By mid-1983,there was alot of "buzz" and excitement surrounding him.It was inevitable that his next project was gonna be a major success.

I feel that he would be bigger today.I think he would have created another album on that level anyway.I think it would have been later in his career and,thus,maybe not quite as shocking to him so that it wouldn't leave him scared and overwhelmed.This would have served to bring out another "1999" type album as a follow-up to "1999".The buildup would be slower and more steady.He would have handled the success much better and the public would not have looked at him as an "overnight" success or instant pop oddity.

He would be a happy, totally unknown person

Don't know how it would've affected him, but, I'd would be seeing Prince formations in the clouds, and hearing his music in the sound of a dripping faucet. *swoon*
