DVD IS WICKED

Well, I got my copy of Live at the Aladdin in the Uk on Monday, and after reading all the reviews on here I was prepared for the very very worst...so I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it is.

The sound through my system is wicked, bassy as hell. The picture is brilliant, it has much more of a live feel than Rave, and the quality is fine ... the performances are superb, highlights being Strollin'/U Want Me, Family Name and The Ride. I honestly cannot believe it got so much stick on this site - I am afraid I disagree and think it is a great DVD.

The re are two downsides - I so wish he had put more on the DVD, it does seem short, and it is really a great shame that he did not include all of the piano medley he did, the vocal and beauty of Sometimes It Snows In April is just a brief snippet of that awesome section of the ONA gigs.

Prince is still as funky and fresh as hell... he has gone for a live feel, broken with the polished convention of DVD concerts, it is wild. And Rhonda Smith looks very very sexy!

Well said,

I had stated this before in some other posts, when everyone was already talking bad of the DVD before it even was released -> Wait and see.

Now I have it and I am very pleased, although it is very short compared to the full length of the concerts.
Just imagine "Days of Wild" that they played in Europe!
My favorite song ever!

I'm glad you like the DVD "Chasing". But I do have a question, are you a long time Prince fan who has seen him perform over the years? Or are you a relatively new fan since from within the past 5 years or so?

Yes, the picture quality is fine - but brilliant it is not. Definately watchable however, and it doesnt really detract Unless u are watching it on a digital or LCD screen.

So there ARE downsides then Chasing?!?!?!? lol
This (4 the most part) is EXACTLY what people were moaning about Chasing - the wasted opportunity 2 utilise the DVD format by placing more on there (although someone has mentioned that due 2 only 5 hand-held video cameras being used, that maybe there was a lot of 'unuseable' footage 2 do that. However, one bonus track is a little tight-fisted - inclusion of the soundcheck would have been very interesting 4 all Im sure.
But all in all - I was also pleasantly surprised by it - it flows well (apart from pOp life beign the opening track - great track, but an OPENER??? TRC wouldnt have hurt.
At the end of the day i guess we can all split hairs on this until we are blue in the face, still - at least we have it huh!

Thanks for your response... I am 33, and have been a Prince fan for 18 years.

I just think the approach he has taken works, just a shame there is not a bit more material... that is a minor complaint!

Dorothy Parker was ... cool!

Good to those who are not influenced by what they hear or read. Use your own instincts, let the music affect you uniquely as well as individually.

I picked up my copy yesterday and it IS wicked. Could have been longer, but the performances are great and the picture quality is good enough for me. It was meant to be "bootleg style", if you ask me.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the DVD and so did my friend who is not a Prince fan. He was really impressed by the diversity of the music and the talents of the bandmembers!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I haven't been to a Prince show since 93, so this was a treat for me. I read alot of the negative posts, but I wanted to reserve judgement until I saw it for myself. Most of the complaints are legit...video clarity, length of the dvd, etc. None of that keeps me from loving this joint. True, I feel cheated out of some the performances, but what's on the disc will hold me. When's the next dvd coming out? wink

Glad to hear something positive. I like it too, it's cool. Yeah it could have been longer and it could have had better graphic quality and it could have featured Wendy and Lisa and NPGMC members could have gotten it for free with a free cloud guitar as a bonus. Whatever. I get a little tired of all the negativity about new releases, to be honest.

Where the SOTT movie is brilliant, but HEAVILY produced, this is straightforward concert footage of the greatest live performer of our times. No tricks, no lipsyncing, no fireworks, just Prince and an unbelievably tight band. I had a previous post where I floated the idea that maybe this is just Volume 1 of the ONA tour DVD's and maybe if this one did well enough we'd see more. We can only hope.
