Prince A Legend Forgotten?

In the 80s Prince was the king. There was no pther person in the world with his talent. Who else could talk about God and sex in the same breath, wip out a guitar solo better than Hendrix slide over to a paino then jump to the drums and do 59 splits all at the same time? His music was poerty, his artistic talent was not heard in his songs.. one could feel them. The 80s were over and the 90s have ended. But have these people forgot about this legend. This genious has never been forgotten to us the fans but to popular culture. He is not remembered as Hendrix or even Michael Jackson... the brilliant artist that wowed the world with Purple Rain, Sign o the Times, and 1999 has been forgotten. I asked my friend who loves rap saying you know Prince might work with Jay-Z's album the Black Album. Is Prince that guy who changed his name to a symbol? Thats how most people remember him now...

hmm, doin' a lot of repostin', anyway, here's my view on this subject:

I rememeber when he was one of the biggest commercial stars, that was cool. But you can only stay on top for so long, hell, there's even Madonna backlashes going on now.
A lot of the artists that were loved and popular aren't so loved and popular anymore, it's natural, times change, people's opinions change, styles/fads change. and only the people who chase those changing things stay on top for a long time
I don't think he's completely forgotten, I can think of a lot of greats who don't get the praise they deserve, and alot of not-so-great that do get praised.
To me, if you're recgonized today and actually have talent, then you're lucky.
Pop culture has changed (for the worse, imho) a lot since the 80s. Probably the last decade where artits were actually rulling the chrts and selling out venues, and such.
But nowadays...well that's a diffrent story.

'dragon, P has been on the scene 25 years. He's to the new school what the Stones and Beatles were to kids like me in the 80's . . . certainly legendary and deserving of props, but not really an artist of current interest. Besides, P has chosen to drop off the radar screen.
Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Because he didn't commit to making Rave a "hit." Lack of promotion on Prince's part aside, Rave had the potential to be great. But by having great guest artists who were barely audible(Sheryl Crow and Gwen Stefani), and releasing an album with absolutely NO edge to it, Prince made Rave a disaster.

If you dig deep, real deep, you'll pull maybe two gems from the rubble, but overall Rave is really really really really bad.

"She'll make you feel like your stuff ain't brown tonight..."

To this day, that one line alone, makes Rave an intolerable listen.

He's not Forgotten, but I will tell you that younger teenagers that I know are just not into his type of music or just think he's Weird as they have told me. I can tell them all the Cool things and all,but still they are into EMINEM and what they HEAR on MTV and the RADIO. For some Reason the Forgive Michael Jackson but Not Prince for what they DEEM as WEIRD. WHO really Cares Anyway? I just think he should get more AWARDS and RECOGNITION. Even if he Doesn't Care well he DESERVES IT Such a TRUE GENIUS and a Musician that is Always ahead of his Time. And you Know well maybe you don't but I do well he Never disAPPOINTS AND YOU kNOW HE GIVES YOU WHAT YOU NEED. I Know him so Well. Truly I do. He's Amazing and well just you gotta really Feel the Music and the Man and well he wants his fans to be Happy and he does aIM TO PLEASE. I suppose this is Why he leaves us INTOXICATED by his PRESENCE and his SPIRITUAL AURA. THE MAN IS MUSIC. THE MAN IS FAITH. THE MAN IS ORGASM WITH A CHERRY AND CREAM. HE is just THAT GOOD. FOR what he Does and what he Creates well the Joy,The Passion ,the Spirit. Well he Inspires and Delights at every level. Please,I Cannot say Enough and everybody Knows it is Truthful what I feel ,...well it's just ;;;Magic!

He'll become a Legend when he's dead!!
Noone has ever said the he isn't one of the most talented ppl that ever lived...infact MOST if not ALL other musicians have the highest respect for him.

But, unfortunately...when he's gone, that is when most of the population will "remember" him again...

Er...I can't think of many people aside from his few remaining fans that "forgive" MJ for his, shall we say, "colourful" behaviour. He's essentially just a bad one-liner now.

Same goes for Prince.

As for Prince (or MJ, for that matter) being a forgotten legend? Yes and no. Both are given props for their talent and influence on pop culture. But aside from fans, most people only really remember the strange behaviour, and seem to be under the impression that they've retired from making music years ago.

Very good point! Prince and MJ have both suffered from, shall we say,"image problems".Their music will live on forever, but I kinda wish that, twenty years ago, both of them could have known what their strange behavior would ultimately do to their careers.

He's no more over than Ellington was when be-bop was the shit, or Picasso was when the art world moved on from Cubism. P's still working, still performing, still trying new stuff out - he's doing his job, so let's just sit back and wait for the unexpected.

Youre not serious are you, that last decade stuff etc.??

In the 90ties up till now, pop musicians are still ruling the charts and selling out venues: Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Robbie Williams, Metallica, Massive Attack, U2, Björk, Moby, Madonna,(could name hundreds!!) etc etc ...
Hey most of them i dont like but i wouldnt say live music is dead these days, not at all: it never died and it will never die! And Prince did a tour in 2002, remember?

And in the 8ties there were also a lot of 'hit wonders' who had no talent whatsoever and topped the charts, so i can't see why today's so different from the 8ties or 7ties??! Please explain...

People who complain music isnt as good as it used to be, are getting old. Im sorry but that's just the way it is.
