Prince not one of the 100 greatest guitarists?
2 1/2 stars for N.E.W.S.?
That report on rollingstone.com about the L.A. gig stating that fans aggressively shouted "sing" towards the end?

FUCK ROLLING STONE.

JESSE SHOULD ALSO BE ON THE LIST!!!
Lamont said something about needing to hear Jesse live to understand his greatness? Well here's a story about how awesome JJ is live on the six string that let me know I was seeing one of the greatest of all time.
This was in the '80s during his solo tour at the Fox Theater, St. Louis. The chandier began to fall and the whole band except for Jesse ran for cover. Not only did Jesse stay on stage but he ripped a solo that went on until they cleaned all the glass up, reset the stage, and the band rejoined him in flow. Should Jesse be on the list? There is no way he or Prince should not.

Wyclef..yeah right.

i didn't expect to see his name. i think he's a great guitarist but not exactly revolutionary. Now as far as greatest performers, that's another thing

Do u actually know anything by Prince? Considering the fact that he shows amazing talents live, there are a NUMBER of tracks and albums that contain his wonderful playing.. not to mention a full acoustic album. What do I actually have to point out?

Please, dont post if u dont know shit about Prince.. everyone in their right mind who knows any knowledge about him knows he deserves a spot in the top 100.. or even the top 20.

Yes, I do think he should have a place on the Top 100. However, you do have to take into account the politics of the music industry. Since his "name change", he's done nothing to further his own cause (if he even had one) to be on a list such as this. He's essentially excused himself from the music industry and crawled into his own world.
This, we all know by now.
I won't claim that all the 100 people on that list don't deserve to be above him, because I don't know all of the names on it...therefore, I can't speak of their talent (or lack thereof).
The man was once a fantastic guitar player...and he has been praised by some of the best. But, I will go back to my notation of the "name change". I recall in many "interviews" before the "name change", he was cited as naming people like Jimi as his influences...hell, he even kinda looked like Jimi for a while. But, after the "name change", when asked what his influences were, he said, "me". Simply put, he took back his own words and dissed everyone he ever said he admired. So, I don't blame the music industry for giving him an arguable raw deal on this list. All the same, I'm sure, if none of this ever happened and he was sane, he would've had a spot on that list for him.
But, the real question is...does he even care anymore? I'd have to say, I don't think so. Given that he's done his best to ensure that he shuts out everyone and everything that brought him to a pinnacle position in his chosen career, I'd definitely have to say that he doesn't.
But, I digress...that's just my 2 bits. I realize it looks like I've done virtually nothing but bash him (again and again)...but, I really do believe he deserves a spot in there...somewhere...

During the ONA concerts he mentioned several times on how Santana is the master...and how he put his guitar down when Santana plays with him on stage. He still gives props.

Plus all the covers of Hendrix and most recently Zepplin are paying tribute to Hendrix and Jimmy Page...if not a spoken gesture certainly an inferred one.

... Yeah right? the accoustic set is really pioneering?

So if my opinion differs from yours "I don't no shit"
I'm really into Prince ... he was the greatest artist of all. He was really great on the guitar, especially when Dez joined him. But there's a differce between a good performer and a technically good guitarist.
Everybody on that F**n' list can play those solo's.
And Prince isn't a pioneer on that guitar.

You can't mention a specific song either in which he's really showing his gift as a guitarist? How should a non-fan ???

By the way .. I hope you didn't hook in after 1987 ... than you haven't seen Prince performing neither.

haha, Thats a f*ckin joke. I could take 10-15 out that crap list that should Behind Prince.. and im not sayin that cause im a fan of his.. Its having a general knowledge about those artists, and Prince's career. I didnt say he had to be number one, but its pretty clear that he deserves a spot in a list like that.. Overall, It really doesnt make a damn but I still find it funny that some of those people on that list made it before him.

and about being a Technically good guitarist.. Your actually agree'in with Rolling Stones list?

hahaha

All in all, that list is nothing but a popularity list and to list some of those artist as the "Greatest" is laughable.
In five years, they'll do another one, and most on the crap list thats whoever remotely popular or on the scene will make the list... If Prince was a high priority in the music business and current with hits, his ass would have landed on that list.

Considering that even Britney is on the list (n.97), and that Madonna made it (n.88: not that bad!), it is really disapointing that prince is not.

The hell with Prince not being on the list; VAI ain't on the list either! Its a weak list. ANY so-called greatest guitarist list without Steve Vai or Stanley Jordan but with Kurt Kocaine and silly, sloppy Jack White from that noisebucket The White Stripes is a bullshit list anyway. They must have let the pets of the writers at RS compile the list? Maybe they polled 1000 gregorian monks or something? I can think of a hundred guitarists better than Prince, but from this list Prince should have DEFINATELY made the top 20. The list SUCKS.
