At first, when I heard that it was going to be four 14minute instrumentals, I was a little disappointed. I didn't take to Xpectation (and still don't) and so wasn't expecting an awful lot from this latest offering. However, I've been putting the CD on a lot in the background whilst I've been doing other things (washing-up, playing video games, having sex, etc. etc.) and I have to say that it's growing on me big time. It's just so fascinating, probably the most fascinating album P has ever put out. Sure, there's nothing there that grabs you instantly, but give it a few listens and you'll start to pick up on small sections of the album. Then, you start to appreciate other, more subtle sections that you didn't notice before and then, before you know it, the whole album suddenly becomes just as addictive as any other Prince album. Like I said, at first I was a little disappointed at the prospect of it but now, I'm so glad that I took the time to try and appreciate it properly. I think exactly the same.

NEWS is a very good album from a musician's standpoint. He's doing very inventive and very difficult stuff on that record. I'm blown away by it. But then again, every album Prince puts out has at least 3 or 4 mindblowing tracks. So have more ie 1999, SOTT Parade, Lovesexy. We are talking about a genius here. Probably destined to be the greatest songwriter\performer of all time. All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

NO N.E.W.S IS BAD NEWS!!!
Wha?Wha?Wha? How could I have missed this album? And also XPectation? Do any of you sweethearts want to give me the quick skinny on these and how to get them? (Yes, I am an utter and complete dumbass, and let my membership to NPGMC expire. Please don't bitch me out... haven't I obviously suffered enough?). And one more thing, I'm getting ready to go out for a bit...and can't remember...is it first socks, and then shoes? Or first shoes and then socks? OH, I am so confused... Utter and Complete Dumbass With A SuperCute Grin Robertes71 "Plaid shorts are completely over."

Yeah, you can buy N.E.W.S in any musical shop and about Xpectation: just use some software like Kazaa and similars.
My opinion about the album. I think it's a very interesting album, and I love Prince because he is all the time innovating and looking for something new. But if I have to compare, I think that Xpectation is a better album and it's a pity that people only can take it through internet.

Is it just me, or is it really cool that a record store lets you return a CD if you didn't like it? Wow!
Anyway, I think "N.E.W.S" can be really hard to get into becuase 14 mintues it a long time! But I think it just breezes by, unlike some bad remixes that are like 10 mins long and you are just screaming "End this!". I don't see how anyone that really likes good music can hate it so. Yeah, it would have been nice to have a real "pop" album but this works so well. I'm not in love with "N.E.W.S" (in fact, I usally stay out of these debates...it seems like we are split in half about this album) but I think its worth the time and then you'll get into it. Anyway, how is that Nappy Roots CD then?

WOah, DUDE! LOOK up "REAL JAZZ" in a dictionary and you will see those two musicians. However, I must say that there IS some "real jazz" being played within NEWS, too...it's just being played by a pop artist is all, so some people have a problem accepting it as authentic. But listen to the sounds...does it feel like jazz? I think so, in parts. But moreso, "jazz-fusion". Pardon me, MrDespues. I am new to jazz and I don't think that makes me a "lazybones"or a dummy. I didn't mean to offend you or Fauxnewbie. Again, I reiterate my question: What is the difference between the "TV compilations" and Miles Davis and John Coltrane? hahahaha are you serious? what kind of tv compilations are we talking about?

I really want to like it but appart from East I'm not really feeling it. It bores me.
I wish that if he did instrumentals that he would do them with the passion that he displays in Sensual Everafter on TRC. That's it you know? (for me at least) through all the expert musicianship, NEWS lacks passion and emotion. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Anyway, how is that Nappy Roots CD then? Hi HMV policy is to allow you to swap a CD if you don't like it as long as it is not damaged in any way which I think is cool too! As for Nappy Roots, it is an awsome set, one of the best hip-hop albums for some time along with 'Things Fall Apart' & 'Electric Circus'! Take Care Jolajeph

There's a new album?!?!?

I think it's a very good album. It took me a few spins but now I absolutely love it!
My favorite is North, I guess, but I like all of the songs. I don't think they are boring at all, you just have to lie down with a good glass of wine and/or a nice spliff and really listen to the music. If you "surrender your expectations" I'm pretty sure you will like it after a few listening sessions! And if by then you still don't like the album at all, just put on an older Prince record to satisfy your "Princely needs". Another new Prince album sure will come out soon and might be more interesting to you. That said, eventhough I like the instrumental NEWS, I would like the next album to feature vocals again. I love the man's voice! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

i have no idea. never even bought it. i think i'm about the least interested in Prince right now as i've ever been (including before i became a fan).
i'm sure in a few months, i'll be back in Prince mode, but i haven't even bought NEWS.
