Prince is most definitely still Prince!! Anyone that's been a fan for a long time will tell you that he is always doing things that make us shake our heads and make us want to shake him too. This is Prince - like it or not! He is a unique individual and he is always doing so called "strange" things. This is one reason why we love him so!

You have to be kidding me right? Prince isn't Prince Anymore???

Where have you been? Prince is ALWAYS changing, that is the most constant and definitive thing anyone can say about him.

Sure he's still the same guy but he's not the Prince I once loved. I don't think "unique" or "individual" really don't fit him anymore. He's not unique and he's sure not an individual since he joined the JW's. The Prince I loved before didn't judge anyone and didn't release half hearted material. The NEWS album is great and why do I love it? Because there are NO lyrics that are putting anyone down or telling anyone what's wrong and right. The Prince I loved before incouraged you to be an individual "our clothes or hair we don't care". But now he's so buried in the Bible that he's left reality. Prince actually helped bring me closer to God when he put Lovesexy out and when I seen the show when I was 16 it changed my life. Now this same person is trying to tell me HOW to love God and that's wrong. So no he's not an individual anymore, because an individual can think for themselves. I will always love him and I have since 1979 but I just don't LIKE him anymore.

I really think too much is made of religious beliefs and their impact on PRince music. We get so fixated on religion in this country that it cripples common sense and logic at times. To expect Prince to be the same as he was in the 80s is foolhardy. Are you the same person you were in the 80s? (if you were even born). People grow and change. A genius like Prince is going to do so even more than most people. This is the world that he lives in now - get with it or not. If you cant feel it, go get the latest pop or rap shit being sold in the music section of Target.

How can you NOT address religious beliefs and their impact on Prince's music??? When this genius you speak of slip from singing about SPRITUALITY to RELIGION?? And I believe that it HAS crippled Prince's common sense and logic. I got used to Prince changing through out his career, but changing his hair, band or clothes is WAY different than changing his stance on God. Gone are "listen people I've got a story to tell", now it's "God wants to be worshiped a certain way." Who is Prince to tell me how to worship??? Before it was a suggestion. Now it's "ain't no room for disagree"??? There isn't?? And no I'm not the same person I was in the 80's completely, but my core is the same. It's called growth and growth is per individual. Prince helped me a lot on my journey and for that I will always be grateful. And I have every right to express my displeasure with his growth if he's trying to mold MINE! And your last comment about Target was nothing short of pathetic, if it's too hard to have an intelligent conversation maybe you shouldn't get involved in one. nod

That's one heck of an arrogant comment to make.

So, in your opinion, no JW could ever be deemed to be either "unique" or even considered to be "an individual"

Ok...so if he isnt Prince, tell me: who is? Because I dont know of any other artist who manages to pull off being Prince better then him. You know, its like: MAGICAL the way this Prince imposter manages to still have explosive performances...be it new or old jams...and the brutha aint even PRINCE WOW...I wonder if the real Prince is even still alive? eek I wonder if the real Prince even cares?! omg I wonder if the real Prince even still makes music?!? eyepop
hmmm Me thinks: YES there is only one conclusion to this: the imposter is the real Prince, never stopped being him. A slight musical change all of a sudden makes him a no-show in his own body? Gimme a break, Prince has always done different things thru-out his musical career, he thrives off of phases musically and/or lyrically and/or personally. This is nothing new...This is nothing new...This is nothing new Prince has always done the different with his music and he always will. He never will have a musical niche as some may think because he will always go on to something else to see how he can do it his way. theres nothing wrong with that. Every artist, or every good artist, will mess around with different musical styles, maybe not all will successfully pull it off but Prince is doing it his way, hasnt he always? Come on old schoolers, vouch for that. And whether or not he or she or we or just me doesnt agree with it, it will be done because Prince doesnt have bounderies when it comes to his music. And as long as he can play, he will journey.

That applies to just about everyone who happens to believe in anything. I, like many, believe that the world is round. Guess I'm not an indiviual. wink

You do seem to presume to know exactly what Prince does and doesn't believe. That's alot to presume for someone you've probably never met.

Apparently, when he was younger he had very broad, vague ideas about religion that not everyone agreed with. Now that he's older he seems to have a more developed, specific belief that not everyone agrees with. Happens all the time. Of course I've never met the man, so I could be exactly wrong.

Still, I think it's fair to say that Prince isn't the same person that he was at 25. IMO, if you' have the same beliefs at 45 that you did at 25, then you're probably doing something worng.

You're taking the point way out of context with the world being round aren't you? The discussion was how Prince has changed his way of bringing God into his music. And if you're actually listening to Prince's songs all these years wouldn't anybody know what he believes in?? And meeting him doesn't really have anything to do with it, go put on Lovesexy or Rainbow Children albums and you too can know Prince. And Prince didn't sing about Religion before, that was the whole point. And if you still have the same beliefs at 25 as you do at 45 maybe it just means you are a lot stronger in your convictions and aren't easily swayed.

Maybe you should start at the top of this thread and re-read it again. NO ONE is talking about MUSICALLY, the discussion was Prince's change from sprituality to religion. No wonder so many on the org are clueless they don't even read everything before they start typing.

Listening to Prince over the years, I have an idea what he chooses to present as his beliefs. Public persona and reality can be very different. Through his lyrics Prince usually comes across as a pretty nice guy, that doesn't really match up with the multitude of stories that present him as having more than a little bit of asshole in his personality.

Prince didn't sing about Religion before? When was "The God Song" recorded again? 4 the Tears in your Eyes? The Cross? So Prince probably believed in Christianity back then. Last time I checked, Prince didn't invent Christianity on his own. Since it's a fairly popular belief held by group of individuals who all believe in Christ, I guess Prince was never a unique individual.

On the one hand that might appear to be the case.

On the other, there are many who would consider thinking along similar lines as merely being united in a common purpose.

Anyway, I refuse to accept that any group of people would "all think the exact same way". Such a scenario is highly unrealistic.

I see, so religious = bad. spiritual =good. I hope that's not your point. Anyway, you don't think "God" was religious? Prince has always sung about religion, imo. First time I ever heard him say "Do you believe in God?" was in 1985 in concert. Certainly he's more overt about it now, but it's always been there.

EverlastingNow is right... I got your back, G. The bottom line is, Prince used to sing about God! Now he is singing about jehova. Anyone who has taken even the slightest little glimpse into that "religion," can see for themselves how UNindividual and quite the little cult it is. No offense, worship God or jehova however you want. But Prince did an about face once he met Larry "jw king" Graham.

God respects FREE WILL, and now that Prince is jw, he can't even cuss anymore. What the duck up with that?

I see, so religious = bad. spiritual =good. I hope that's not your point.

Where did you get that religious equals bad??? But I will say if you are standing with your religion judging everyone else that is bad. Which is what Prince does now. He judges the rest of us for eating meat, cussing and not worshing God the way he does and that is bad.

Please keep in mind, there is a world of difference between Spirituality and religion. Believe what you want to belive, but a higher power (God), call him what YOU choose, is a spirit. And if you truly follow the bible, it says in John 4:24 "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." S-P-I-R-I-T! Not in a man-made religious way.

No we don't. He's always believed different things than me, but he's gotten real good and JUDGING everyone and that's not right. I give a respect to him that he doesn't give back to his fans. Satan's Claws anyone???
