We Can Funk

Confusion!

Can anyone tell me just how many different versions of this song are in circulation? (if possible with track times and year of "production") I've lost it!!!

Boris?

I believe...there are 3..

the one from Graffiti Bridge
one that is longer and slower (my favorite)
and one with mostly George C on vocals...

There are seven versions of We Can Funk; three of them were recorded in 1986, two in 1989, and two in 1990. They differ quite strikingly at times. I prefer the one of the 1986 versions without George Clinton, with Prince's vocals turned up, and Miko Weaver's solo at the end.

Seven versions... do you happen to know the running time of each one?

Anyone?

We Can Funk #1 (5:25)
We Can Funk #2 (5:25)
We Can Funk #3 (5:51)
We Can Funk #4 (6:22)
We Can Funk #5 (10:24)
We Can Funk #6 (6:43)
We Can Funk #7 (7:35)

Versions 1-3 are various mixes of the version recorded with
The Revolution in 1986. Versions 4-7 are various mixes of
the version included on Graffiti Bridge. Version 4 doesn't
feature any input from George Clinton, whereas versions 5-7
feature increasing amounts George's input.

SWANG

The version that ended up on Graffiti Bridge is a heavily overdubbed version of the original 'We Can Funk' which was recorded in 1983 with the Melvoins. That's Jonathan on drums, by the way. Don't know why he wasn't credited in the Graffiti Bridge liners.

Come to think of it, ?love wasn't credited for drumming on 'Just Friends' on It Ain't Over.
