There are seven versions of We Can Funk; three of them were recorded in 1986, two in 1989, and two in 1990. They differ quite strikingly at times. I prefer the one of the 1986 versions without George Clinton, with Prince's vocals turned up, and Miko Weaver's solo at the end. The version that ended up on Graffiti Bridge is a heavily overdubbed version of the original 'We Can Funk' which was recorded in 1983 with the Melvoins. That's Jonathan on drums, by the way. Don't know why he wasn't credited in the Graffiti Bridge liners.
Come to think of it, ?love wasn't credited for drumming on 'Just Friends' on It Ain't Over. -SWANGthinksPrincemayhavesomethingagainstdrummers | |
