4F DISCUSSION: How has Prince influenced you: music style wise? I mean, has his style of music shaped the type of music you listen to? Prince isnt the only artist I listen to, theres so many more but I formed a whole new respect for live band/music because of him. It made me add in performing on stage with a band on my singing "to-do list". &

His music is the only form of music that tempts me to want to take my clothes off on a dance floor in front of a lot of people. ~Of course I don't. Oh... I'm not a 4F. ![]()

I discussed this at dinner tonight:
Prince turned me on to many poeple... James Brown, George Clinton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joni Mitchell, to name a few Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

it's sorta odd for me, cuz i've always had an eclectic musical taste way before i started gettin into ol' boy's work. i guess that's one of the reasons why i got into 'im, cuz of the musical amalgams.
it's lots...lots...lots of things in one!

I was "into" funk & blues B4 Prince with James Brown, Temptations, 4 Tops, Otis Redding, Jimmy Smith, etc. but Prince got me "into" MORE of the jazz/blues genre, ( as of late ) like TRC, His piano solos, (which I never cared 4 before ) and his ballads, that R just gorgeous. I never cared 4 slow ballads much till I heard his. BTW, didnt know U had a band. COOL. Good Luck in ALL U accomplish CherrieMoonKisses. May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love.

hmmm, from prince I went on to 60' and 70's soul and funk (Brown, parliament, sly, motown..) ->jazz & soundtracks-> african percussion ->india and arab music-> classical ...
(I was mostly hooked on his rhythms and percussive sounds) His dancing was always very impressive to me, so I hooked up on contemporary dance with fav's like Rosas. Rosas actually uses a bit of prince in their last performance. Through this group I git to know more contemp classics like steve reich and classical like bartok. It's a sidetrack but it all started with Let's go crazy waaayyy back in time when I was still a very goood boy listenin to everything mommie said His version of "one of us" was used in another group's performance "something on Bach" where a dragqueen performed the song on stage while another girl ran and crawled through the theatre public. That was entertaining :0) The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy.

I happened to come across Prince's music when I was 14 in the late 90's. I connected with it deeply. It opened my mind to "real" music because I saw that it didn't have to be boring or really angry, etc. I'll always be grateful for that. God knows what I would be listening to otherwise *shiver*
