Aladdin DVD in Australia?

.
Any Aussie orgers know of the Aladdin DVD making its way down here like NEWS? I wonder if HMV has ordered it? If any Aussie orgers know, let us know here...otherwise I will be forced to enquire at HMV, etc myself biggrin

Great question mrdespues!

HMV Australia are really backing Prince on his recent releases (they put ONAL box set in a prominate location in their Sydney City store, and slowly, store by store are now the only real outlet in Australia stocking NEWS)

I suppose they will order the Aladin DVD on import in small quantities if they think it's worth their while (probably based on how well NEWS has sold for them).

If they do that, more than likely you would be able to find it in the Sydney City store (I guess mrdespues, if we wanted to get it a little closer to home, say at Macquarie Centre, we'd have to ask them to transfer it in) wink

Having said that, The DVD is region 0 (so it will play in an Australian DVD player, that usually plays the home region (4) and the universal region (0), so that's no problem). The picture format on the DVD however is NTSC, which can be played on an Australian TV & DVD player if you have that on your players, but Australia runs on the PAL format, which will give u a better picture than the NTSC

Ive heard word that Universal Australia will release the Aladin DVD locally on the PAL format, problem is, they haven't set a release date as of yet, so it could get released here next month, or next year (if they were smart, they'd try to market it in the lead up to Christmas).

It all depends on how soon u want to watch it.
Personally, as much as I want to watch it, I can wait for the local release.
I bought the RAVE 2000 dvd from the states, but i had that for a good 6 months before that DVD was released in Australia.

It's all a gamble, but im willing to hold out to get it in the better format.

If your willing to hold out too mrdespues, then I will see u at HMV Macquarie the day of release - Take Care! smile

SANITY is EVIL!

They are the y2k Brashes

The last Prince release they carried was TRC, they didn't even bother with ONAL nor NEWS.

They (as a company) are having massive losses as a music chain. You may have noticed over the last 18 months they are phasing out the music CD's, and increasing their DVD range. Soon, they will only carry DVD's (and maybe at most have a Top 20 Chart of music CD's, but that's it).

But, If they're moving more into DVD's then maybe they will add the Adladin DVD to their range?

I was going to try JB Hi-FI. They stacked the RAVE dvd when it came out and might be a place to see about this one too.

I haven't asked Impact yet. But they are usually good if you need to import something...so I might try that.

I have lived in Oz most of my life, love the weather (here on the Gold Coast), food, clothes etc, but when it comes 2 CDs and DVDs, why would u even bother buying local copies??? That's the beauty of the INTERNET, u can buy all ur superior region 1 DVDs and those great (sealed) CDs u get from the States. As one of my friends puts it, I have "Region Fourbia", U.S. R

Region 1 all the way...

RONNY - Let me ask the Aussies out there, how many of u own "Sign O' The Times" on VHS? Is there a jump at some point during "I Could Never TTPOYM" and "U Got The Look"?

This was back in the 80s, mind u. I re-ordered from Germany - perfect! Both PAL of course, which is superior 2 NTSC, but that was video, now DVD is a different ball game, U.S. quality will always beat out dodgy Australian 'lack of' quality, I'm sorry 2 say, I'm sad 2 report.

In Summary (and in my opinion)

* VHS (video) - European PAL (U.K.,Germany etc) beats out U.S. ntsc - which beats out Aussie PAL.

** DVD - U.S. (region 1)beats out European (region 2) which beats out Aussie (region 4).

***this is just from my personal experiences and research.
