Admiration for Prince Okay, last night on BBC1 (UK) I watched that show "Prince's Millions". I must say, I thought the whole thing was rather tabloidy and tacky. Still it's cool that Uptown and Alex Hahn got a mention!
Anyway the outcome of the show, although it tried hard to make him look bad, was just admiration. The fact that he IS such a bad businessman, but so determined to control his own career and his art, and is still managing to make music for a living and still, is quite impressive in itself. For all the disgruntled people who had trouble getting paid by Prince in that documentary... all I can say is that last October in London I was treated to a kickass aftershow gig absolutely free. Also the documentary doesn't mention Prince's charitable contributions - it seemed more concerned with his silly PR stunts (e.g. the face mask interview on "the Sunday Show" and the whole "slave" nonsense). Either way, respect to Prince. True, I wasn't totally in love with NEWS - I enjoy it for what it is, but it hasn't changed my life or anything. And true, I find the DVD a bit crappy. But the man has managed to survive so many years in the music industry, despite being utterly hopeless as a businessman and he is still making original music and making a good living out of it. You gotta respect success like that.

I do Respect and Admire him Ian and you know what I think he is turning around his failures from the past Businesswise. I never thought he was a bad Businessman. He took alot of Chances and he Gambled with Clubs,Stores,Movies and Music Changes. Trust me he is Absolutely Brilliant,Brilliant. The only thing I wish is the people from the past who were so anti-Prince are now Pro-Prince. I just want him to get his Star and his Do Props like the other notables. He is more than Deserving.I wish Warners would give him his Masters. They Can and they Should it's his Music and only he should decide how he wants it used. I enjoy the NEWS it's Peaceful and the DVD is very Exciting although short. Even getting a Broken nose and all well nothing could ever make me abandon that Enjoyment of the musicAnd still he is the most Gorgeous man in the World so let me Enjoy my Fantasy as it is Mine alone and if I choose to live it well no one should interfere. Prince will always be ...the man of my dreams...

Prince has already achieved a level of artistic and commercial success that only a hand full of other acts achieve. I think a lot of people feel that he had something really, really special at one point (1980-87) and he has kinda let it get flabby and out of shape. A lot of the dissatisfaction with Prince nowadays comes from long-time fans who kinda think he has been squandering his talent and promise that he showed. (Since TRC, you could rightly argue he has been trying to strive for something again). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

And this is precisely why they complained at the end of the 2002 european tour, which led Prince to make NPGMC members pay 100 dollars for the Bataclan (Paris) aftershow! But true, free aftershows are great for us as fans

Coming from Ian, who's about as far from an asskisser as we get, this means a lot. I think I got a tear in my eye.
Yay Ian! Ooh! Here I go again, fallin' in love all over

Those guys looked TIRED in the Marquee club in London... poor John Blackwell looked like he needed a good night's sleep.

i agree Ian. the show was a bit tacky and scandalous (ha) but the host did really show that Prince was a serious musician with an enormous amount of talent. he also showed how dedicated Prince was. i think he was a fan.
i think Prince doesn't regard money as as the be all and end all. i think he likes having money to get nice things but he realizes that it's just a mode of transport if you will to get from a to b. at the end of the show he had like 103 million but had spent something like 60 million leaving him with 40 million. he often comments on money anyway.

No commits or ill remarks have ever changed my perception nor the respect/admiration I have for Prince and his musical success. What is, is... nobody can change or take away the past. Fact. I am going to London...

You've let me down Ian; I had hope that you would remain a fellow Prince hata. I was wrong, and your every word in here is now suspect. Prince and satan are one and the same, and Ian, you too can be saved. Repent while the time is right. Repent, I say.
All you others say Hell Yea!!

whatever... one person creating jams like Head, Do Me Baby, Controversy, It's Gonna B A Beautiful Night, Get Off, Days Of Wild, Cindy C, Adore, Something In The Water, When Doves Cry, She Loves Me 4 Me (ok, this is on the edge...) and so on and so on. And albums like 1999, Purple Rain, ATWIAD, Parade, Lovesexy, 1999, Gold... well you got to admire someone like that.
Doesn't matter whether you like/enjoy him or not: admiration for so much wonderful music is all you can do... now let's diss him for being such an asshole: making the fans pay his band by charging us $100 per ticket for an aftershow (Le Bataclan and Nighttown 2002) where the rest of the world got free aftershows Least the mf can do is give the NPGMC members who purchased tickets a DVD of those shows...
