Actually, Michael's worldwide album sales are more like this:

Off The Wall - 18m
Thriller - 59m
Bad - 30m
Dangerous - 30m
History - 20m
Blood On The Dancefloor - 6m
Invincible - 9m

Wow,I knew that 'OTW' and 'Thriller' had astronomical sales, but I didn't know that his other albums did that well. It's funny, many of his post-Thriller albums are considered sales disappointments, but I don't find those sales disappointing one bit! Like Madonna,MJ may not be as popular in the US as he once was,but he's still capable of selling alot of CDs in other places.

Mmm...i'd say those sales numbers are extremely optimistic, certainly when you count actual sales.
18 - 54 - 27 - 28 - 14 - 5 - 6 should be more like it.

Well, I have checked several sources and although they may represent shipment rather than retail sales they are accurate. Considering that MJ's back catalougue has been on many charts around the world since the january documentary (Off the Wall is still in the UK chart as we speak) it's very likely that the sales figures are right.

Invincible is good IMHO,I wish Prince could still drop a ballad as good as 'butterflies' or 'heaven can wait'.

It's a great album. Had the following songs been released as singles; Unbreakable, Whatever Happens, Speechless, Heartbreaker, Break Of Dawn, then the album would've had a much bigger profile and probably doubled in sales. Unfortunately, Sony had other ideas. mad

Jackson Daily News claims to have the most accurate sales:

OTW - 17.8m
T - 58.9m
B - 29m
D - 28.8m
H - 20.5m
BOTD - 5.8m
I - 8.4m

So there, I wasn't that far off. razz

Is anyone else REALLY sick of comparing MJ & Prince. They both have done their share of entertaining me over the years and they both have done projects that have not really met expectations. Let's just leave it at that.

Whoever said they are waiting for Prince to make a ballad on par with Butterflies & Heaven Can Wait...um check out She Loves Me 4 Me & Mellow from The Rainbow Children, 2 of his best ballads. Album sales do not equal quality of music.

Yeah that was me.The TRC ballads aren't exactly 'Adore' or 'The Beautiful Ones' standard though are they?

I agree album sales don't mean shit though.

Hmmm...when I was a kid,I always had the opinion that you were either a Prince person or a MJ person.
I never thought about listening to both.
I was a Prince person.
And I don't regret it a bit, that I was listening to SOTT,while the masses were missing out and choosing to listen to BAD disbelief
I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

By the way MJ makes about $2 Bucks per sale on each album (but he has to pay off the producer's he needs to seem hype.. his last album thats $25 Million)

Prince since 1996 gets around $9- 13 per album sold (double disks around $20-30 per).. NO producer cost..no studio time..

hmmm

$9 per disc that sells fuck all

or

$2 per disc that sells in excess of 9 million

what was MJ thinking..., DOH!

Producer's & Studio Time

Prince: Electric bill at Paisley Park

MJ: $30 Million /$35 Million Studio Time Promotion

Here are my comparisons

Micheal Jackson really wants 2 be Prince
Prince just wants 2 be himself[/quote]

This 100% true.. Who can't see after it took 5 years for MJ to create his own album "really" on his own for BAD (well the writing part).. He changes his Skin, Face & Hair to look almost exactly like the 1984 Prince just without facial hair.

Then for his first video back .. he wanted Prince to be in the BAD video in the Wesley Snipes "character"... MJ was just itching to sing the first lyrics to BAD (Your BUTT is Mine??)

I have never seen another human have a bigger hard-on for Prince then MJ?? To actually change your skin color to match closer to Prince's ..Lets not forget the facial surgeries and that dead on "Purple Rain Haircut".

Thank GOD he didnt - it would have been truly awful.
Bad is one of the worst songs MJ ever did - it certainyl hasnt stood the test of time.
Uerrrghhh - just thinking about the prospect of that whole deal makes me ill

I dont even have to read this all the way through to know that its crap. Comparing record sales is meaningless unles you are a record executive and your business is record sales - it has almost nothing to do with quality. I am rating this waste of space at 0.
