Purple Rain or Thriller?... Prince and Michael become monsters of the music buisness.. while many can say Michael's popularity was bigger then Prince's many believed Prince had much more musical passion than Michael in his albums.. We all know commercially Micahel won Thriller sold over 50 million copies Purple Rain sol 16.9... or Bad sold over 20 million copies in 1987 and Sign o The Times sold 3.2 million the U.S. alone...
But the question is.. which do you prefer ... Purple Rain or Thriller www.emale.com the king takes the pawn

"Purple Rain" brings back wonderful memories but "Thriller" is better. "Bad" is some of the worst shit EVER while "SOTT" still kicks the ass of the new stuff that's out now!

Hmmm, difficult one.
If it wasn't for Billy Jean and Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' I'd say Purple Rain - but I think we all know which album had the most impact. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's the entertainer against the Musician.
The two can't be compared because they are two separate genres. Thriller is R&B and Purple Rain is soft rock/pop/funk. But I'd definitely take Purple Rain over any of Michael Jackson's albums. [This message was edited Thu Aug 14 8:53:15 PDT 2003 by ChadtheRTF] BLEEP BLEEP!

Off the Wall was a way better album musically. Thriller is pop fluff to appeal to the masses. Purple Rain is a much better album.

Yet Thriller is holdng it's own. Try posting the same question on an MJ forum and see what happens.

There R lot´s of cool things happening in the mix while listen carefully & Michael phrasings R so incredibly funky. I think Quincy Jones did a fantastic job producing this. /peace Manki

Holy...holy...holy... This is when I was proud to be a MJ fan. PR and THRILLER are outstanding albums of their time and are classics up to this day. SOTT and BAD are fantastic as well. Im sorry but I cant chose one over the other and Im a MJ hater now. &

i know which cover i prefer... Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Purple Rain all the way. Thriller is a great album, no doubt about that, but Purple Rain is raw and funky! Also, Prince wrote everything and played just about everything. MJ had loads of help from QJ and plays nothing.

Purple Rain
I love every song on that album. Can't say the same for Thriller.

Tough one.
But i guess you could say Thriller is the 'ultimate Pop album', while PR is just a really amazing album, but not a standard in one genre or another. That's why i think Thriller was actually a bigger feat and for me it wins, but it's a close call. Now Bad vs. SOTT, it's SOTT, easily. Decisions, decisions. I mean, both albums were great and show the 2 artists at the peak of theri pow...Awww, shit, who am I kidding??? I'm not gonna come on Prince.org and say that Michael Jackson has the better album. We all know that Purple Rain is sonically cooler. It's at the top of my favorite albums list while Mike's is somewhere between 11-20. My vote's on Purple Rain. And he didn't even have to get a former Beatle to make a guest appearance to make it cool either. My hero (as well as his Revolution) did all the work himself. LOL...I've made up for you Over the years I've owned Thriller on LP, cassette, 1/2 speed master LP, picture disc, and CD...and I just got the special edition cd I dunno if I can pick between the two...they're both excellent in their own ways. Altho if I go with which one gets played more on my stereo at the moment, Thriller wins

They both gave me "that feeling," but somehow I still have some zeal for Prince that ended long ago for MJ Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I think you should be comparing Thriller with 1999 since they were released in the same year

im a huge mj fan but i really dont like thriller. besides billie jean it is just weak pop songs. i think its a bad album to 'represent' mj. i semi understand why it was so big when it came out, but IMO HIStory or dangerous deserves to hold the title of biggest selling album ever.
so purple rain gets my vote, even tho i still love mj.
