"Diamonds & Pearls": one of his worst albums!

I just listened to this album after many years of not owning this album and my God, it sucks! The production is much too clean and flat sounding, most songs are average to poor and the raps are awfull.

I guess after the enormous flop of Grafitti Bridge he had to prove Warner he still could have commercial succes and baked this halfassed album. Commercial succes it did have, but gimme GB anytime over this weak, non-adventurous, badly produced pile of crap.

Yes, it has "Get Off", one of my favorite Prince songs, and "Money don't matter 2 night", but these are the only two decent songs on the album in my opinion. The title track is OK too in the sense that it's a well done pop song, but not really my cup of tea.

OK, I kinda enjoy "Walk Don't Walk" and "Willing and able", although both are quite mediocre and I like the groove of "Push" in some strange way. But for the rest I would like to forget all about this album and I have a feeling I won't play it anymore in a long, long time.

Eventhough NEWS is certainly not my favorite Prince album (I love the man's voice!), I enjoy it much more than stuff like D&P!

I love the 'D&P' album.Yes,it was very commericial-sounding,but there are still many gems on this album. How could anybody resist the charming "Strollin"? Are you willing to dismiss the sexy bedroom ballad "Insatiable" which features amazing falsetto vocals? Or what about the catchy,hook-filled "Cream"? And,did you even listen to the strong message displayed on the closing track "Live For Love"? This is a strong, consistent album and it flows beautifully.

i used to like this album as well but i'm not that big on it much anymore. like you say it does have several gems but as a whole it's not sooo bad. if it didn't have the rapping on it then it would have been much better. as far as the songs go, i think they are pretty good, not the best but at least it's better than Rave.

I also love D&P - very funky cd. I totally agree with everything Davideye said about it.

*"Strollin'": jazz-lite to my ears, nothing impressive.
*"Insatiable": Poor rehash of "Scandalous"
*"Cream": cleverly made catchy pop/rock song, but nothing great
*"Live 4 Love": beautiful message, poor song

Of course, this is just my opinion...

have to say, d&p is not one of my all-time faves. i don't agree that it is crap, but still, i prefer GB and symbol.

i love that song! the vocal on it is great and the solos at the end are fantastic. it doesn't even sound like a sequencer doing drums; it's the whole band rocking out.

The "Camille" album: now that would have been a very funky album! And the Black Album is what I would call very funky. The D&P album is funk-lite at best in my opinion. Except for the incredibly funky "Get Off" of course...

Couldn't agree more. I think D&P has some great songs (all the singles) but is paded with crap ("Jughead" and "Walk Don't Walk"). I think Prince should have made his own album at this time. I don't understand why he felt he needed NPG to make good albums. Too often they ruin a good thing.

I don't hate D&P. From that time period it's the one I still listen to. Yeah Jughead is pretty stupid but the rest is pretty good imo. Graffiti Bridge was a very spotty album and, well, don't get me started on how much I hated Symbol (expept for "7"). Overall it's not his best by any means but its not his worst either.

Question2003

How on earth is D&P one of his worst
What is the matter with you and your ears
boy how can you not like Its Thunder,
Daddy Pop and D&P is beautiful, Stollin, Cream
Willin N Able, Walk Don't Walk, Live 4 Love,
Insatiable, Money don't matter, Jughead, Gettoff.

I love this album one of his best.

These kids are bad and the sound is awesome
mainly the guitar playing on Thunder.

Go in the bathroom and wash your ears and
listen again. You don't know good music.

Whats the matter R U shoes on 2 tight

D&P is his worst album by far. But it's still better than most of the other shit out there!. Money Dont Matter, D&P, ive 4 Love and Willing & Able are nice, but the rest is bordering on puke worthy. Cream is the worst song he's ever put out. I don't care how far it reached on the "charts", it's a lame ass lazy song.

Of course, this is just my opinion...

i think this album has high moments and low moments like most post 1988 prince records. i do think, though, that there are far more high points than low. while cream may not be the best pop song in the world, it is still a damn good song...one of my faves, actually. thanks, most likely, to the visual of Prince singing it to himself in the mirror while recording it. when you think of it as an ode to himself it takes on a much better meaning. the only songs i don't particularly like are push and jughead. live 4 love is alright, but he is capable of better, i think. the rest of the albums is tops in my opinion.

to each their own, though.

I can forgive D&P for being so mediocre
since it produced 2 fantastic cd maxi-singles:
Cream & Gett Off.

To each his own. Personally it's one of my favs.

I love Thunder, Daddy Pop, D&P, Strolling, Willing & Able, Gett Off, (which spawned my favorite maxi single songs, The Flutestramental and Violet the Organ Grinder), Money doesn't matter, and Live 4 Love.

Damn and how could I forget "Cream", that was one of my mantras during the 90's, hell I'm still like "Cream", I always rise to the top and there ain't nobody better.

Every Prince album has at least two truly great tracks, and on this one, I think "Thunder" and "Strollin" are those great tracks.

The rest of the album ranges from ok to really good, but not great... Nothing on here is outright horrible to me except for Insatiable. I never could get into that one.
