Just do what I do. Go back and listen to some of the kick ass boots from the 80's. Then I remember why I love this stuff.

Listen to the live LOVESEXY tour. Listen to the PARADE tours. Listen to the 1999 shows. That will fix your boredom with the current stuff.

Puts a smile on my face all the time.

I even put in the Lovesexy live Dortmund and I said. " oh yeah...kicked my ass all over the place, that's what I remember about Prince."

Good luck :nuts"

Strange...NEWS has been available for a while, and I've made no attempt to buy it.

I didn't even consider buying the new DVD, EVEN BEFORE I KNEW HOW SHITTY THE QUALITY WAS!

I've never cared about the NPGMC.

I've stopped hoping that he'll play at the Park, so my wife can see him.

It's been ages since I've listened to a Prince CD (I recently went on a road trip to the Black Hills, and didn't pack a single Prince CD out of like 50-some discs!).

His old stuff doesn't move me like it used to.

I rarely visit the .Org anymore.

I have NO idea what's even going in the Prince world. He could be touring right now, and I couldn't tell you.

I don't defend him any longer when people criticize him.

And so on.

I think I just don't like Prince anymore. Maybe it will last forever? After all, there was a time when I thought that Black Sabbath ruled the universe...but then I grew up. Maybe I've grown out of Prince?

Was it the religious tilt?

The boring instrumentals?

The jenky NPGMC?

The lack of Paisley gigs?

What happened?

And will I come back? What could make that happen? Remasters? A vault box set? Prince saying he was just kidding about "all that shit these last 8 years or so," and getting nasty again?

I'm sure some psycho 'fams' will have some terrific "If you don't want to lick his purple man-fur, then just leave!" responses. But I'm interested in hearing from real, thinking humans.

I wouldnt count out never likin his music again.. I really understand where ure at right now, and I wouldnt force or try to really worry/sad/bother yourself with it.. if u want his vision of music, u'll always have ure disks/cd waitin for ya.. if not, its no big deal, ure growing musically, and having a diversity in music is never bad..

I'm sad because I once got so much enjoyment from his music, and had a lot of passion for it. That "spark" (barf) is missing now, and I've only recently fully realized it.

Me can relate, fully...I think once most of these ppl wake up from their Purple kool-aid induced coma's...they will feel the same also!!

No, it's not. Buy yourself a dictionary.

Ah, that initial post, it reminded me of me after Lovesexy came out...I still listen to the old stuff, and bits of the new stuff, but when his mind went on the religious trip and his music went on the over-produced trip...well, I want to remember the raw funk, the experimental stuff.

I still read here occasionally, but Prince is just lost, now.

I can really relate, it is pretty much the same for me (and for some of my friends who are/were Prince fans as well)! It's always kinda sad when you have to say good-bye to something that has had a real impact in your life or to realize that you may already have said good-bye without even realizing it. It shows us that time is passing by and that we loose interests, friends whatever on the journey of our life. There was a time when Prince's music added something to the sountrack of your life, but you have moved to a different direction or the directions he has taken just don't match with yours. So every now and then you might have your moments of nostalgia and maybe some day you will get something out of his music again, but only time will tell if that will happen or not.

I haven't bought it either. That doesn't mean anything

I didn't even consider buying the new DVD, EVEN BEFORE I KNEW HOW SHITTY THE QUALITY WAS!

I've never cared about the NPGMC.

Me neither

I've stopped hoping that he'll play at the Park, so my wife can see him.

whatver about the quality of his music, he's still the greatest live act in the world

It's been ages since I've listened to a Prince CD (I recently went on a road trip to the Black Hills, and didn't pack a single Prince CD out of like 50-some discs!).

this i can't understand. maybe you overdosed on him

His old stuff doesn't move me like it used to.

take a break from it

I rarely visit the .Org anymore.

there's not much going on at the moment

I have NO idea what's even going in the Prince world. He could be touring right now, and I couldn't tell you.

not a lot

I don't defend him any longer when people criticize him.

it's pointless

And so on.

I think I just don't like Prince anymore. Maybe it will last forever? After all, there was a time when I thought that Black Sabbath ruled the universe...but then I grew up. Maybe I've grown out of Prince?

i think you'll get back into him. you're hardly going to re-evaluate the musical genius of sabbath 20 years later

Was it the religious tilt?

possibly

The boring instrumentals?
probably

The jenky NPGMC?
Definitely

The lack of Paisley gigs?

What happened?

And will I come back? What could make that happen? Remasters? A vault box set? Prince saying he was just kidding about "all that shit these last 8 years or so," and getting nasty again?
hahahhaha

I'm sure some psycho 'fams' will have some terrific "If you don't want to lick his purple man-fur, then just leave!" responses. But I'm interested in hearing from real, thinking humans.

it's understandable enough. prince is just not the same artist. you will get back into the old stuff for sentimental reasons, and 4 it's artistic value. you will always have a vague interest in what your old friend is doing - it's not your fault if he's doing nothin!

sad

Bohhoohhooohooo poor you. Poor little boy. Snifff boohoohoohooo.

You don't even realize how pathetic it is to come here to say you are fed up with Prince. Why do you take the time to come here on Prince.org uh ?!!!

Anyone who spends too much time on an artist must be fed up at some stage. It makes sense.

I've got my Bowie periods. It lasts for several months. I cannot listen to something else. And then I 'm so fed up with him that I move on to new artist. It works like a cycle.

Move on. Find out what is good out there in terms of creativity, musicianship (hehe good luck !!!).

I went through a similar phase in the mid to late 90's where I just could not get to Prince. I was so far off into Hip Hop and "newer" electronic forms of music and gaining an ever growing collection of Jazz that Prince just didn't seem to "fit" with what I was feeling.

Fast forward to November 2001 when I bought The Rainbow Children album and all of a sudden I have gone Prince crazy again. This has not happened just to me! 2 of my friends who were also of a like mind flipped back into the Purple Boy's music full time.

I think King Sausage also had a point with "maybe it's just the anal audiophile in me..." line, cos I am kind of the same when it comes to listening to the old 80's mastered CDs. Is very hard to listen to them if you are a person who invests a lot of money into top end hi-fi equipment. Have to dig that vinyl out everytime!

I'm a fan since 1987, but me too had a similar phase, period 1996-1999, with its apex in a total indifference towards NPS album and tour. But from 1999 on my interest increased again

This is a stretch, but I think one reason why many longtime fans are losing interest in Prince is simply because his old albums aren't being re-mastered.If his catalog was digitally remastered with bonus tracks,it would create alot of excitement about him again. It would remind many fans why they became fans in the first place. It would be like re-discovering these albums all over again.

Yes, starting a new phase is always hard. Especially if everything from the previous phase is gone. Then it feels like your whole life is starting over from scratch. I prefer it when I move into a new phase that is a consequence of the previous one, and not something more or less random. That is what progress and growth is all about.

What do people get out of coming to a Prince fan site and writing a dissertation on why and how much they dont like Prince? I dont understand why someone would do that. I dont like Justin Timberlake or most hip hop artists so it never dawns on me to go to their site repeatedly and express my contempt.

Even if I used to like Prince, I would simply take my old Prince material and move on to other srtists. That seems much more meaningful and productive

We may miss the old prince, but he's moved on which is cool, now theres something new, if u like it cool, if u don't then u can still appriciate the old stuff.
Just think of him as a new artist, and the one before was another.
At least he has been doing this music stuff forever now and we have witness it. think of jimi hendrix, he came and went in 4 years (as a solo artist), it was beautiful. a lot of ppl would have wished that he never died. I wonder what he would be like today, all strict blues maybe?

I've said this in another topic but also decided it should go here too smile

The only thing pathetic here is your cliche bullshit answer about "you still come here blah blah but you hate Prince blah blah." Do you see all the other people here saying the same shit? Why would we not come here and talk with other ex-Prince fans? It would be perhaps pathetic if I was still coming here 15 years after calling it quits on the man's music. But I hardly think that posting about a sudden realization qualifies as such. Of course, you may disagree, but you're blessed with infinite fucking wisdom aren't you???

I'll try to explain this, but let me know if you need clarification...which - judging from your post, you might. I've been a huge fan of Prince for years...really, really into the guy. One day, it hit me that the excitement was gone. So, I came to the Prince discussion community that I've always frequented (since that's what fucking sites like this are for - DISCUSSION), and started a thread so that I could hear from others who are going through the same shit. As you can see, many others are.

I, also, do not go to any Justin Timberlake sites. But that's a retarded point, as it shows a horrible misunderstanding of anything I wrote in the first place.

Let me pose YOU a question, since you seem to be high and mighty enough to have infinite godly wisdom: Should people who are in a non-Prince listening phase just never come to talk about Prince? Should we not hope to hear from others how they eventually learned to dig him again? That's a pretty fucking close-minded viewpoint, IMO.
