Prince please get some help!!! I love music, but know little about how the distribution and all that works so I don't know who to bitch at.
I just went to the wrecka stow Wharehouse/Turtle Music here in Memphis. I ask the clerk, "I'm looking for the new Prince Live DVD that came out today." She replies, "We don't have anything like that" Another clerk says, "Yes we do, there still in the back I'll get one for you." Why isn't this stacked right in front of the store? I saw all the new releases out front, including little ass Lil Bow Wow, and nothing about Prince. How does he expect people to know his music is out there unless they visit NPGMC or Prince.org? Who's fault is this, the store, Prince's, who? Sorry for venting.

One thing's 4 sure - that first clerk who told u they don't have anything like that should have her head examined. She hears the name Prince and probably thinks, "nobody cares about him anymore so why should we". It never ceases 2 amaze me how stuck up people can be. It's a damn shame... Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

I feel you on the clerk, but who's responsible for not having the DVD in visibility. It wasn't stocked under Prince in the DVD or CD section, it was still sitting in some boxes in the f*ucking stock room !

The only thing I can think of is that the store just wasn't in much of a hurry 2 put the product on the shelves. Now, since the release date is today, maybe they had just got the shipment when u came in, I don't know. But my hunch tells me it was sitting back there a lot longer than it should've been. Let's face it, if we were talking about Eminem or Britney, the store would get that shit up front in a heartbeat. But of course, when it comes 2 someone with REAL talent like Prince, suddenly the store had better things 2 do. Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

Record stores dont tend to put independant releases at the front of windows or the main entrance because the record company doesnt PAY the retail outlet 2 do so as oppose to huge mainstream releases.

Not so much THAT, as, they don't PAY PEOPLE to go to the stores to make sure their stuff is out and visible. A close friend does that for a living - makes the rounds for Universal - store to store everyday, making sure they've got posters, CDs, CDs STOCKED and folks are aware of the release, etc. The problem is, THAT costs money, and Prince wants to MAKE money, not spend it. That's why the discs are in a box in the back. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Well if it goes on general release in UK stores and i've bought it, i might pick one or two up from the miniscule Prince section and place them in the DVD chart No1 slot, just for the hell of it.
Might get noticed then!.Even if one person buys one before they move them back, it'll be worth it

As I think this relates... I'm confused about the distribution of Prince's CD's & DVD's. Is NEWS only available on the web? I went to two stores looking for it = Tower & another popular mall store (i don't remember it, it's so popular). Dude in store #1 said it was delayed & they'd have it next week (it's been longer - still no NEWS). Dude #2 lead me to believe that Prince did not have a new release because it wasn't listed in their database. He said maybe it would show up in a month & soon after that they would maybe have it. So, I rolled my eyes & walked out. Is Prince's music being strapped to a snail for delivery or are the stores just not getting it? I've never seen one nite alone live in the stores - was that internet only?

I used to manage a Sam Goody, years ago. Tuesdays were shipment days and everyone came in extra early to stock the new stuff. We always did the big-demand, major releases first, then everything else would sit in the back 'till we got around to it. Seems like that's what was happening at your store.
