Does anybody like any Prince guitar besides his Telecaster? To me they all look silly!
The white - peach - blue Angel was alright for the song Purple Rain, but he shouldn’t use them for any other song. The guitars he played after the blue angel are outrageous. It doesn’t surprise me that Prince isn’t taken serious as a guitar-player by non-fans. But most important, they all sound so clean .. all those clean and slow guitar solo’s ... It’s nice he can play those solo’s one-handed, but imagine what would happen if he uses both hands on the Telecaster

Why not? It is a beautiful form. I like his very edgy bass. The one from the 1991 period.

In fact ... I'm not sure if his good-old-guitar really is a Telecaster (the "lace on wood" one).
On the neck it says something like "HOHNER". Anybody knows if it's a Telecaster???

It's a Hohner, a cheap Telecaster clone... _______________________________________________

There are two of those 'old' guitars.
A brown one, which he played often at the ONA concerts. That's the Dirty Mind guitar Then there's a more yellow one, the Controversy guitar. I've only seen him play that guitar once, at the Marquee aftershow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

His old Hohner's looked more like Telecasters because the headstocks were very similar to each other. I think I read that Fender sued Hohner and made them change their headstocks. Hohner came out with a copy of the guitar that Prince fancied. They called it the "Prinz", because he wouldn't endorse it.
If it sounds good, play it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Amazing basses. But pound for pound u can't mess with a good old Fender Jazz Bass.

THe white cloud is the quintessential Prince guitar. I have one in my living room and whe people see it, they immediately know it is PRince. All they know is Purple Rain and they still associate it with Prince.

I had an old guitar mag where Prince talks about all of his gear. It was pretty interesting stuff. He said he always wanted to be known primarily as a guitar player. He said that his Hohner sounded "ratty" and sounded good when he put enough distorion through it. If you go to the Taylor Guitar site and look at the company history you get this interesting tale:
"Hoping to lure rockers into trying their acoustics, Taylor and Listug accepted a challenge from Glenn Wetterlund of Podium Music in Minneapolis to create a guitar for one of the day's superstars -- Prince, who needed a 12-string for some recording sessions. At the time, Prince was in his "purple" phase, so Taylor made him a purple-stained 655. But, there was a catch: Prince would not perform with instruments bearing a visible brand name. As a result, Taylor would make a guitar that would be seen by millions (Prince played it in both his Purple Rain and Live Aid videos) -- and the Taylor logo would be nowhere in sight. Whether the "Prince guitar" in any way impacted the eventual re-emergence of the acoustic guitar is debatable, but it sure didn't hurt Taylor Guitars. By then, word of Bob Taylor's handiwork was spreading through the music world, and famous and unknown musicians alike were snapping up his guitars."

Some of 'em are downright horrid. The alpha and omega Prince axe is the Hohner Tele with the leopard skin pick guard. All his others are in its shadow. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

The Tele rip-off is O.K. But the guitar I love and must own one day is the Symbol. And I saw he recently added a tremelo to it. That makes it even more fantastic.
I much rather own a '52 Fender Telecaster re-issue for less money and better playablity. That cloud guitar is hot too, but its not worth playing if the fretboard is crappy and it doesn't have the Lace or EMG pickups.
