Marvin Gaye & Prince

Do y'all think that Marvin Gaye's "divided soul" is comparable to Prince and his sexual/spiritual tug of war within? Perhaps Prince decided to go the spiritual route (although I feel that his direction has stifled his music). Marvin fell victim to his own insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. He was constantly torn..."Sanctified Lady", "Sexual Healing" and "Let's Get It On" are perfect examples of his duality...Prince has countless examples...What do ya'll think?

Prince never got half as bad into the 'bad side', as you might say, as Marvin. Marvin had two rooms at tours - one for cocaine, the other with a priest to absolve him after he partook.

As I say - counting Prince's early stuff - Marvin is for makin' love - prince is for fucking *S*

i don't really know if marvin gaye and prince are the best comparison. IMO i've always thought of R. kelly to be more like him when it comes to the spiritual tug of war

I'm always apalled when people compare R. Kelly to Marvin Gaye...It's an insult to Gaye's talent

The closest person in today's scene in comparison to marvin is D'angelo. They both are preachers kids. D seems to be fighting some demons of his own as late, just as Marvin did. That helped to fuel if not ignite Gayes' creativity. I just hope that the young brother can get it in gear, cause he's got so much more to deliver.

Why compare these two?

Marvin is more of a legend than Prince.
And he surely is a better singer.

Vocally D'Angelo is more like Marvin than Prince is . D'angelo triple tracks his voice like marvin. Prince I would say does some old stevie wonder stuff. Like maybe your baby, sounds kind of like his Camille voice.

Both great artists.
Music is the best...

Lets Get It On is one of my all time favourite songs
especially in a dark room with a fine woman.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I heart Marvin more then words can say but Im gonna have to say something here to defend my man, Prince.

Marvin and Prince comes from 2 different eras of music therefore making them 2 entirely different kinds of legends. You cant say one is better then the other because both had a strong influential impact on their fans.

And Marvin has a completely different style of singing then Prince, which true singers usually do. Now your opinion is your opinion and I respect it but all I ask is that you not make it sound so cemeted.
